By signing the Aircraft Rental Agreement, you as the renter are indicating that you have read and understand the following policies and procedures, and that you agree to them unconditionally.
• An initial checkout is required by an approved Tailwind instructor in our aircraft.
• A re-check is required every 120 days unless proof of at least 10 hours of flight in make and model during that time period is provided. • Smoking is prohibited at all times on the ramp or in Tailwind aircraft. • Carriage of pets is prohibited. • Minimum flight charge for 24-hour aircraft rental is 4 hours. • If customers must cancel an appointment for aircraft rental within the preceding 24 hours, the rules of Tailwind’s cancellation policy will be put into effect. • Fuel tanks must be checked prior to departing and the renter is responsible for ensuring the weight and balance remain within limits prior to engine start. • The filing of FAA flight plans is encouraged for all flights that exceed 50 nautical miles from the departure airport. If renters do not want to file FAA flight plans, they will be required to leave the same flight information with Tailwind personnel as they would with an FAA flight plan. • Rental for cross-country flights in excess of 200 nautical miles, or overnight trips, are limited to renters who have approval of the chief flight instructor or Tailwind management. • Flights over Lake Michigan or any large body of water beyond power-off gliding distance from shore are strongly discouraged. • All operations in Tailwind aircraft will be from a public use airport suitable for that aircraft. • All operations of Tailwind aircraft will be in accordance with established procedure outlined in the checklists, POH, or as specified by Tailwind management. • Renters are expected to supervise and educate all of their passengers as to the proper use, care, and delicate handling of the aircraft to minimize wear and damage. • Renters will be held responsible for the actions of their passengers. • Renters are required to report all damages and equipment problems or irregularities immediately to Tailwind management and note in the “squawks” section of the aircraft time sheet. • Renters should understand that all additional fees associated with use of Tailwind aircraft is the responsibility of the renters. Such fees include tie down, landing, hangar, de-icing, engine pre-heat, heater plug in, tax, etc. • Pilot Flight records will be provided and kept on file at Tailwind for rental customers. Office personnel may dispatch aircraft only if these records indicate the minimum requirements for rental have been met. Responsibility for keeping these records updated is placed upon the renter. • Flights into known or forecast icing conditions are prohibited. • Night flight is restricted to those renters who hold at least a private pilot certificate and have had an initial 1 hour night checkout by a Tailwind instructor. • Proof of currency for night operations per the FAR’s is required. If currency cannot be shown, a re-check for night operations is required. The length of the check will be at the discretion of the Tailwind instructor. • Renter will keep the pressure to the nose wheel/strut to a minimum by holding the yoke back during rollout upon landing and when taxiing the aircraft. • Do not place your feet on the brake portion of the pedal when touching down so as to prolong the life of the tires and brakes. • Be conservative with the brakes when the aircraft is in motion, and use the minimum power needed when using the brakes to turn the aircraft. • Taxi at 1000 RPM or less – if you need to use the brakes, you are taxiing too fast. • Under no circumstances should you spin the aircraft or load the airplane with a G force of any kind. NO intentional negative or heavy positive G maneuvers are permitted. • Practice efficient leaning procedures during taxi and cruise to prevent spark plug fouling. • Be careful when visually checking fuel levels to prevent scratches in the paint or windscreen. • Park the aircraft into the wind. Insert the control lock and chock or tie down the airplane when parked. • Do not place headsets on the instrument panel where they may scratch the windscreen.
