Virtual production tracking is your way of knowing what's really going to happen.
The Tebis module for roughing in layers integrates this functionality so that it can take
the residual stock model into account as it computes an NC program. Minimized idle
tool travel is the result. This module has intelligent algorithms to smooth toolpaths
and reduce tool wear, so you'll find you can mill at feed rates you'd never have thought
possible. It's no surprise that savings in time and money are completely automatic.

The easy way to define the geometry of any blank

Roughing programs reach peak efficiency when the geometry

of the CAD blank matches the real thing. Tebis has the func-
tions that enable you to reverse-engineer blank geometries at
the touch of a button:

1. Block-shaped blank completely enveloping the component.

The closed topology is created at the touch of a button.
2. Profiled blank: the geometry is derived by moving a profile
curve in space. The closed topology is created at the touch
of a button.
3. Offset blank with casting allowance: the distance between
specified geometry and blank is constant. The mesh
geometry is created at the touch of a button.
4. Digitized casting blank. The physical blank is digitized and
imported as an STL data record. The closed mesh geometry
is created at the touch of a button.
5. Any CAD-generated blank. The blank is created using CAD
commands.

takes into account the way in which the geometry of the com-
ponent emerges as the selected milling cutter removes stock
layer by layer. That means Tebis always knows the residual Selective re-roughing for short machining times
stock remaining on the component and can reduce infeed and
positioning movements to the optimized minimum. The intermediate geometry computed just beforehand is used
as the new geometry of the blank. This selective re-roughing
has several advantages:
• Use a smaller cutter to clear out even the smallest recesses
(1a, 1b),
• Use tighter spacing between layers to remove cusps (2),
• Use a different tool orientation to cope with steep slopes and
undercut areas (3).
In the CAD system these intermediate geometries are represen-
ted by closed meshes whose precision depends only on the size
of the milling cutter. The rule of thumb is the smaller the tool,
the higher the resolution of the mesh.

whether to use axis-parallel
or contour-parallel roughing,
select climb cutting, conven-
tional cutting or lace cutting.
When you select the contour-
parallel strategy you have
a choice of four different
sort types. You can decide
how you want the program to
handle component contours.
The system automatically
differentiates between pocket-like interior areas and areas
accessible from outside. Depending on the sort type you select,
Tebis computes where and how to advance the tool, and when
and how the contour has to be relief-cut.
Your choice of strategy definition influences the percenta-
ge of retract movements, and it also helps optimize tool wear,
particularly if you work with hard materials.

Automatic infeed reduction prolongs tool life

Tebis has automatic infeed reduction so that you can maximize

useful tool life. The system knows when the tool is fully engaged
in stock and automatically reduces the feed rate accordingly.
This function reduces cutter wear.
