STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

In 2011, I continued my study to Universitas Syiah Kuala in Geophysics Engineering

Department. I choosed it because I have been fascinated by earth science and engineering since
senior high school. Geophysics is about constraining the earth's sub surface. During lectures in
Universitas Syiah Kuala, I have done many fieldworks, fieldtrips, and researchs. Theory we got
in class, we applied in exploration sector, global and environment sector. We have practiced four
geophysic methods, such as mapping of the iron ore spreading, to find the hydrothermal
spreading, mapping of the seismogenic structure and other practices. In my research for bachelor
thesis, I used MASW method (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Wave) to measure the sub-
surface layer in Banda Aceh which to know the vulnerability level of building to earthquakes in
Aceh. My research can be used for Seismic Hazard Assessment and Mitigation in Aceh because
of my country which experiences regular earthquakes.

In 2014, I followed Geophysics Annual Fieldcamp which cooperated with Universiti

Sains Malaysia. I joined students to learn together about new sciences and applications in
Geophysics Methods and the important thing was that it enhanced my time in Geophysics
Fieldwork.

I finished my Bachelor Education for 3 years and 10 months. Thereafter I highly want to
continue my study to master degree because I’m the person who believe that education is a main
factor to develop my self. I am planning to continue in Geophysics KFUPM for my graduate
study. I choose this program because I would like to contribute to our understanding of the
mineral potential and research about natural disasters. These fields are highly complementary in
developing our understanding about earth.

I will be specifically focusing on Seismology, study about propagation, generation, and

recording of waves on earth. I am interested in subjects such as minerals and earthquake
investigations. Besides, Saudi Arabia is a country with complex geological condition because it’s
located in Arabic Plate and surrounded by Africa Plate, India Plate and Eurasia Plate. Otherwise,
Geophysics is an appropriate field in KFUPM and absolutely in Saudi Arabia. I plan to develop
my studies in Indonesia and a relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in science and
engineering. I will develop the field of geophysics engineering by becoming a researcher and
lecturer in Indonesia and continue my study to a doctoral program after working for a couple
years.
