To Whom it may concern:

My name is Lauren Hoyos and I am writing you in hopes of being considered for a position in
the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program at your hospital with an overall goal of working in
one of your highly awarded intensive care units. I was informed about this opportunity during
my third semester of nursing school at the University of Arizona, College of Nursing, where I
was lucky enough to work alongside a brilliant registered nurse who had been trained in your
Nurse Residency program three years ago. It was during this semester that I discovered my true
passion for caring for critically ill patients, and where I found exactly what I wanted to do with
my future as a registered nurse. During this rotation, I was able to care for critically ill patients at
Banner University Medical Center’s cardiovascular ICU and trauma-surgical ICU. In my 5-week
preceptorship during my fourth and final semester as a nursing student, I earned my position
precepting in Banner UMC’s highly awarded cardiovascular ICU. Throughout this experience, I
not only worked 188 hours alongside various team members of this unit, but I gained knowledge
that has pushed me to become a better nurse and received positive feedback from all of the staff
regarding my patient care abilities, critical thinking skills, and my strong ambition to learn new
skills. I have assisted nurses caring for fresh post-open heart patients that underwent Coronary
Artery Bypass Grafting and/or Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Replacement, esophagectomy
patients, bilateral lung transplant patients, and stab wound victims. The time that I have spent
working and learning in the critical care setting has prepared me to not only critically think, but it
has shown me that I am able to provide these patients with safe, evidenced based care as well.

I am graduating on May 10th, 2018 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University
of Arizona, College of Nursing. With your facility’s overarching mission to deliver leading-edge
patient care, research, and education, I am confident that your facility will push me to become
the nurse that I know I am capable of being, and will constantly push me to further my education
so that I am always providing my patients with the most current evidence-based care. Being
ranked as the number one hospital in Los Angeles and the number 7 hospital in the nation, I
believe that I could not ask for a better learning environment. My experience in the ICU’s has
shown me that diligent, compassionate, and evidenced-based care truly is associated with more
positive patient outcomes. My drive and dedication to learn and the compassion I am able to give
to both critically ill patients and their family members are reasons I believe would be an
exemplary nurse for the your organization. Joining one of this Health System’s ICU’s and to
work alongside some of the brightest minds in healthcare would truly be an honor.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and discussing more about my candidacy for this new
graduate program.
Thank you for considering my resume and for your time.

Sincerely,

Lauren Hoyos
