The manual fuel feed pump with fuel prefilter (1) is located on the
suction side of the fuel low pressure circuit between the fuel tank
and the fuel pump.
As soon as the engine is started or for as long as the engine runs,
the fuel pump suctions up the fuel in the fuel tank, whereby the
fuel at the manual fuel feed pump outlet () passes to the manual
fuel feed pump with fuel prefilter (1).
There is plastic ball (2) at the manual fuel feed pump inlet () which
serves as a check valve. The suction pressure generated by the
fuel pump causes the plastic ball (2) to be lifted off its seat and for
the fuel to stream over the plastic ball (2) into manual fuel feed
pump (3).
If the hand wheel (4) on the manual fuel feed pump is firmly shut
(driving or normal mode), the fuel passes through the annular
cross section between the pump membrane (5) and the housing
wall of manual fuel feed pump (3) to fuel prefilter (6), and flows
through this from outside inwards. This is where the larger dirt is
filtered out.
The fuel then passes over the manual fuel feed pump outlet ()
back to the fuel low pressure circuit.

If the hand wheel (4) is released and pulled upwards together with
the pump valve lifter (7) then the plastic ball (2) closes, which is
being pressed into its seating by the increasing pressure in the
manual fuel feed pump chamber (3), the manual fuel feed inlet.
The pump membrane (5) bulges outwards and the fuel flows past
to the fuel prefilter (6).
Suction or pump cycle (B)
If the pump valve lifter (7) is subsequently pushed downwards,
there is a vacuum which arises above the pump membrane (5), the
plastic ball (2) is lifted from its seat and fuel is sucked out if the
fuel tank.
The fuel is driven at the same time below the pump membrane (5)
through the fuel prefilter (6) and over the manual fuel feed outlet
back into the fuel low pressure circuit.
