 FRASES NOMINALES

Una frase nominal es una palabra o un grupo de palabras en una

oración que actúa como sustantivo.

Por ejemplo, podrías decir:

"I met Joan."

("Conocí a Joan.")

En esta oración la palabra Joan es un sustantivo.

Podrías reemplazar Joan con un grupo de palabras (una frase) y decir, "I met your sister."

("Conocí a tu hermana.")

Your sister una frase (un grupo de palabras sin un verbo finito) y funciona como sustantivo
en la oración.

Entonces la llamamos una frase nominal.

(Todos los niños estaban dormidos.)

• The boy in the blue jeans says he'll do it.

(El muchacho de los vaqueros dice que lo hará.)

 FRASES VERBALES

Una frase verbal es la combinación de un verbo principal y uno o

más verbos auxiliares. Este grupo de palabras actúa como un verbo.

Frase verbal = verbo principal + verbos auxiliares

Ejemplos de frases verbales

(las frases verbales están subrayadas):

eating + are => are eating

"They are eating now."
("Están comiendo ahora.")

come + will => will come

"I will come tomorrow."
(Vendré mañana.)

wait + have been => have been waiting

"She has been waiting for more than an hour."
("Ha estado esperando durante más de una hora.")

EJEMPLOS DE FRASES VERBALES

Por ejemplo podrías decir,

"I waited for you."

("Te esperé.")

En esta oración la palabra waited es un verbo.

Podrías reemplazar waited con un grupo de palabras (una frase) y decir:

"I have been waiting for you."

("Te he estado esperando.")

Have been waiting es una frase verbal y funciona como un solo verbo en la oración.

Entonces le llamamos una frase verbal. También puede llamarse un verbo compuesto.

Fíjate que los verbos en la frase verbal se pueden separar. En otras palabras, ¡no tienen que
mantener el mismo orden!

Por ejemplo, tanto

"We will return!" ("¡Volveremos!")

"Will we return?" ("¿Volveremos?")

contienen frases verbales (en negrita).

QUÉ ES UN ADVERBIO

Un adverbio es una palabra que describe o da más información

sobre un verbo, un adjetivo, otro adverbio o aun sobre una oración
entera.

LOS ADVERBIOS GENERALMENTE RESPONDEN A LAS SIGUIENTES

¿Dónde? Home. ("I went home.")

("Me fui a casa.")

¿Cuándo? Yesterday. ("We met yesterday.")

("Nos reunimos ayer.")

¿Cómo? Slowly. ("The turtle moves slowly.")

("La tortuga se mueve lentamente.")

¿Con qué frecuencia? Sometimes. ("Sometimes it stops responding.")

Una frase adverbial es un grupo de palabras en una oración que

actúa como un adverbio.

Es una palabra o grupo de palabras que AGREGAN ALGO al sentido de la oración.

EJEMPLOS DE FRASES ADVERBIALES

Por ejemplo, podrías decir, "I live there."

("Vivo ahí.")

En esta oración la palabra there es un adverbio. Nos cuenta dónde.

Podrías reemplazar la palabra there con un grupo de palabras (una frase) y decir, "I live in
the house on the other side of the street."

("Vivo en una casa al otro lado de la calle.")

On the other side of the street es una frase (un grupo de palabras sin un verbo finito) y
funciona como un adverbio en la oración. Nos cuenta dónde.
