State Standard
Specific Lesson Objective: Students will make observations of different objects using their five
senses and descriptors.
Lesson Purpose: Students will recognize and be able to sort/tell the difference between a soft
thing vs. a hard thing, a sweet taste vs. a sour taste. The students will recognize how to use their
senses to understand the world around them.
Materials: Bags:
Plastic water bottle with rice in it, 5 essential Bag 1: Plastic bottle with rice in it
oil bottles, cut up apples, orange juice in little Bag 2: Essential oils
test cups, enough paper at each station for Bag 3: Pens
every student, 3 stuffed animals, 5 pens, 5 bags Bag 4: Stuffed Animals
to put supplies in Bag 5: Orange juice in test cups
Anticipated Time Frame: 45 minutes (8:30-9:15am)

Have the students do every sense that makes sense for all the objects
Have them choose 3 of their own objects to use their senses and write it down on the
paper.
ELL:
Have an assigned partner within the group to help, and structure group work to make sure
the student(s) with language needs are given their turn to participate.
SPED:
Have an assigned partner within the group to help, and structure group work to make sure
the student(s) with special needs are given their turn to participate.
