THE KANATA NORTH COMMUNITY RECOGNITION AWARDS, April

24th, 7 pm, Mlacak Centre – Join the community as we come together to
honour nominees from the community and present awards in each category.
Join me along with emcee Steve Madley, Bagpiper Brenda Grant, friends,
family and members of the community as we celebrate the achievements of
some great volunteers. After the ceremony, you can meet the recipients and
enjoy refreshments.

BILL TERON TRIBUTE, March 30, 7pm at the Brookstreet Hotel – Bill
Teron, known as the Father of Kanata was the visionary who compiled land
for an entire city and undertook to make it happen. In celebration of the
Bill’s great work as a community builder for Kanata, our country and the
world, I’ve joined with the Beaverbrook Community Association and
members of the Teron family to host this Tribute. Join me as we come
together to remember, reminisce and celebrate what he did for us. We
would appreciate an RSVP at KanataNorth@ottawa.ca if you are coming (if
you forget you can still come!)

SPRING CLEANING THE CAPITAL - Although it does not feel like spring,
we know it is coming and the winter debris is emerging! Why not get a
group together and register for Cleaning the Capital? You will get some
cleaning supplies, be eligible for prizes and contribute to the community. It
would be great if Kanata North could win the challenge this year for the
greatest participation (as we did last fall). Information and registration at
www.ottawa.ca/.

HUNTSVILLE and TERRY FOX TRAFFIC LIGHT - Last week Planning

Committee unanimously passed my report recommending installation of a
traffic light at Terry Fox and Huntsville. Thank you to all residents who
called, emailed, and passed on their concerns regarding the intersection to
me and my colleagues. The report needs final approval from City Council on
April 25, then preparation of a supporting report and approval of an
agreement with the developer to build (who already supports it). My
objective is to have it operational before school opens in September.
GOULBOURN FORCED ROAD – The road closure creates access problems
so I am working to get pedestrian and cycling access whenever it is safe.
The road will open for non-vehicular use from April 13 to 23. On some
weekends, a link to paths on both sides of the wetlands will be available. I
will receive work plans at 2 week intervals, so you can check the status on
my website. The road is to open late in August.

NUISANCE MOSQUITO PROGRAM – I have met with GDG Environment

and City staff on the course of action for this year, which will be outlined at
the Town Hall. GDG staff has identified ‘hot spots’ and will be starting to
treat wetlands by land or helicopter within the next few weeks. You can help
by volunteering as an observer (it’s very interesting) for the weekly sweep
tests. Please contact my office to help.
