Save A Life Foundation (SALF) is extending to you this invitation to participate on tJie First
Responder - Careers to Healthcare Curriculum Review Panel to review a new SALF curriculum
aimed at training high school youth to become First Responded prior to graduation. With your
particular area of expertise we wish you to review the curriculum and provide insight, which will
increase the effectiveness of this course.
While other First Responder curricula exist, they are specifically targeted at an older, more
experienced student SALF has taken a new approach, targeting youth 15-18 years of age
Through this coarse our goals are to prepare students beyond basic Life Supporting First Aid
skills, encourage their participation in local Citizen Corps. Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and to consider careers in healthcare, law
enforcement and emergency preparedness. With these goals and target audience in mind, 5ALF
must ensure that the new curriculum meets the requirements put forth in the First Responder
National Standard Curriculum, as published by the United States Department of Transportation.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That's where you come in.
We are asking for your critique of various sections of the textbook, which correspond with your
area of expertise. Attention to detail will be needed. You will be asked to judge the content.
context, and accuracy of text. When weaknesses are found we asK you to offer suggestions for
improvement.
We understand your normal daily responsibilities to work and family account for the majority of
your day, so we have tailored our request on your time to just a few hours Please return to me
your acceptance or regrets in writing via email or fax by April 27. 2007.

1 would like to personally thank you for accepting thi.s unique challenge that will benefit
and encourage our youth towards a career in health care. This is the first time focus will
be place on students 15-18 years of age to become nationally certified as a "first
Responder". equipped with skills to assist current certified EMS professionals in a lime
of need, while acquiring the new National Incident Management certificate which is now
required by many employers,
As you may be aware the failure rate for a first time EMS student to pass their national
examination is 73%. By introducing a high school student to the academies of this "First
Responder" course, they will have a greater understanding of the intensity placed
on EMS prior to pursuing any advance medical career, or realise EMS may not be a
good career chose. Never the less, they will be armed with vital skills for what ever
career they may pursue.
Our invitation to serve on this committee was not chosen randomly. You were chosen
because we value your expertise and your enthusiasm to prepare our youth towards a
career in healthcare, especially EMS, and saving lives.

Only through caring individuals and organizations, standing together in unity can we make
progress in our struggle to end the violence perpetrated our children. We must continue to be
vigilant in protectrng our children from the predators within our communities Our children must
be prepared for the dangers around them. Children need to be able to recognize a dangerous
situation, remove themselves and others from imminent danger, and when necessary how to lend
aid to others who are injured or ill.
As the Coalition of the Caring moves forward we encourage your continued participation and
invite you to spread the word to other individuals and organizations you feel would want to
partrcrpate rn coming programs and events.
Once again, thank you for your participation. We are looking forward to wotting with you in the
