c. Name of Article: Inclusive Practices in Elementary Education: What Do the Heads of

Schools Perceive?
Author Name: SANKAR PRASAD MOHANTY & NISHIPADMA NANDA
Journal Name: i-Manager's Journal on School Educational Technology
Date of Article: July 17, 2017
Summary:
This article discusses the feelings of heads of schools have on inclusive education in the
classroom, that is, admitting students with special education needs to be assimilated
and taught in a regular classroom. The article stresses that typically the heads of schools
feel negative towards this practice, as do teachers. Many believe they lack the
knowledge necessary for teaching these students in relation to their disabilities as well
as don’t have administrative support or the time to teach these students. Some studies

found the opposite view: many teachers approve of inclusive education because it
minimizes stereotypes of students with disabilities. Studies show that when students
with disabilities learn alongside students without disabilities, their learning is enhanced.
The writers of this article included a study on the topic to see what could be found
about headmasters’ thoughts on inclusive education. Most agreed that while it would
cut down on discrimination, there is a lack of training for teachers and it could cause
issues in the classroom. The overall idea of headmasters and teachers in this article is
that students with disabilities require more help and assistance than they can give them
in their classroom.

of experience, years of experience at present school, the free/reduced lunch population,

years of teaching experience, and highest level of education. The results of the study
showed that there was no statistical difference on student outcomes based on their
principal’s gender or leadership skills. However, the study does show evidence that
female principals impact their student’s achievements on state assessments such as the
CATS, while principal leadership appears to have no effect.
