Dear Families,

Hi, my name is Kendra Gardner and I will be working as a student teacher in your student’s 8th
grade math or Algebra 1 classroom during second semester. I am so excited to be at Lucile
Erwin Middle School and to be working with Mrs. Elwood. I am currently finishing up my senior
year at Colorado State University and will be earning my degree in Mathematics with a
concentration in Secondary Education. I have always had a passion for math and look forward
to sharing that with your student. Throughout my time at CSU I have had two practicums, the
first being in a sixth-grade classroom at Conrad Ball Middle School here in Loveland and the
other being in an Algebra 2 class at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins.

I was born in raised in the small town of Elizabeth, Colorado and decided to follow my older
sister’s footsteps and attend CSU. Besides my practicum experience I also worked as a 7 th grade
math teacher this past summer for a fellowship in a low-income part of Denver. I have also
worked as a swim coach and swim lesson instructor in the Fort Collins and Loveland areas for
the past few summers.

As a student teacher, I will be working this semester in your student’s class to help provide
extra support. I have been observing Mrs. Elwood teach and getting to know the students over
the past few weeks as well as co-teaching. As the semester continues I will increase my duties
including teaching one unit. I am looking forward to this semester and am excited to be a part
of your student’s last semester before they begin high school. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to contact me through email at kendra.gardner@thompsonschools.org as I
welcome the opportunity to get to know you along with your student.

Sincerely,

Kendra Gardner
