Resources for Your Family Kids’ Coloring Page

Do you ever look for books for your kids that
offer more than fluff? Yes, we want to teach
them colors and the alphabet. Trucks and boats
are just way cool. But we want MORE!
Check out this link for recommendations on
three books that will help you walk your kids
through some important life lessons on
understanding breaking down barriers between our differences,
following God’s command to love others, and the ways in which
friendship breaks down loneliness.
And, if your budget is tight and you don’t want to purchase
books, remember that we explore issues such as these each
week in Children’s Church.
Note that on Sunday, May 20, we will be celebrating Pentecost.
Click here for a good link with ideas for your family. The main
page is designed to be used as a Children’s Moment in church,
but it will make a fun project for your family to do at home. At
the bottom of the page you will find more links to other activities,
such as coloring pages, crossword puzzles, and mazes.

The Little Church That Could: First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Bellingham, WA

Many Hands Make GOOD Work

If you ever watch the news and feel overwhelmed by it all, take heart. For our little church on the corner of Bakerview
and Deemer is counteracting the sorrows and woes that make the world weep. Like so many other faith communities
and individuals who are working to do good in this world, First Christian Church of Bellingham keeps doing what we can
to share God’s love in ways both big and small.
Thanks to your energies and your generosity, we were able to reach out to people in our own community and throughout
the world in 2017 and already just this year.
Here is a look at some of what we have been doing.

Disciples’ Missions Fund Special Day Offerings

Special Offerings & Projects Opportunity Council Update

Reconciliation
This Special Offering is used to fund our Church’s mission imperative to become an pro-reconciling and anti-racist
church utilizing experiential education, inclusive worship and intentional dialogue. Our efforts to promote healing,
relationship and restoration in the whole family of God are enlivened by funds from this offering.

Week of Compassion
Week of Compassion works through a remarkable network of church partner organizations and
partnerships that insures that our response to humanitarian needs in the world is efficient, effective and

hope to hurting people in every corner of the world.

The 2017 & 2018 Week of Compassion offerings we collected have been submitted to WOC in the amount of $2,076.04.

Honoring World Water Day

Lillian Moir started us on a journey, long ago, collecting money to build wells in Africa. Having spent
many years working in Swaziland, Namibia, and Botswana, Lillian knew well the importance of
providing clean water for those living without this basic necessity. Since that time, we have honored
Lillian’s wish to provide clean water to the world’s most needy people and, in honor of World Water
Day each spring, we bring in our own “water jars” filled to the brim with our coins and our dollar
bills. Thanks to you and your loose change, we are able to to continue sending funds to Global
Ministries, which works with international partners to provide clean, safe drinking water with systems
that utilize local talent and equipment so that the water solutions can be sustainably maintained. For
more information, please visit https://www.globalministries.org/water.
The 2017 & 2018 World Water Day offerings we collected have been submitted to Global Ministries in the amount of $$1,877.11

Someone Cares Community Meal and Joseph’s Closet

Each month, on the second Sunday of the month, our faithful crew of volunteers prepares a nourishing, belly-filling
meal, sets up tables with pretty centerpieces, and welcomes guests for food, conversation, coffee, and community. In
2017 we served 620 people total plus a crew of around 10-12 each month. Thus far in 2018, we have 201 people plus
the same amount of crew.
Furthermore, few months after starting the Community Meal, we added Joseph’s Closet to the mix, offering free
clothing, shoes, and household goods to those in need.

Reaching Out to Our Muslim Sisters and Brothers

The Bellevue Islamic Center of Eastside was burned by an arsonist in 2017. On March 21 of this year, a second fire did
further damage. Thanks to your contributions to our Mosque Rebuilding Fund, $796.50 has been sent to assist them in
the rebuilding of their community and their facility. May peace and love prevail in our communities.

More Special Offerings and Gifts

Other offerings have been received and earmarked for “Missions,” in the amount of $443.39. These funds will be sent to
Global Ministries. The 2017 Staff Christmas Gifts totaled $166. CAST offerings for 2017 and thus far for 2018 totaled
$307.98.

Opportunity Council Update:

In the latest version of the proposed low-income housing Promise Village the site would accommodate 54 units, which
would lower the per-unit cost. However, this redesign would require an additional 1.3 acres of our property.

The Trustees, Stewardship, and Officers met to discuss our options in meeting the needs for the project, while being
prudent stewards of all that God has entrusted with. Opportunity Council will get their own appraisal, and further
discussion will begin.

Any decision considered will be brought back, then on to the congregation at an announced special meeting.
