Dear Government,

Should Abortion be legal?

Have you ever heard of the word Abortion? Do you know what does it mean? Do you think it
should be legal or illegal? Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most
often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. The abortion itself usually takes 5-10
minutes, and you'll get medicine to help with any pain. Maybe you would think that this issue is
not important, but actually it is important because it divided people into to Pro-life and
Pro-choice.(how to they do abortion, and why it’s bad) First they So some people think that
women has the right to choose whatever to do with their bodies, but other think that the unborn
baby has the right to live. Abortion has been performed for thousands of years, and in every
society that has been studied. It was legal in the United States from the time the earliest settlers
arrived. At the time the Constitution was adopted, abortions before “quickening” were openly
advertised and commonly performed. I believe that Abortion is a murder, because this unborn
baby considers a human being. This unborn baby has a soul as any other living thing on earth.

Abortion made people think confusedly because of the strong evidences from both sides. Each
side has something reasonably that make you think of changing your mind. For example, the
Pro-life said, even if that human being has yet to be born. ‘‘Unborn babies are considered
human beings by the US government’’ (Congress.gov 2004). This is strong evidence shows that
the government it self considered these unborn babies as a citizens. All religious people and
religious communities support Pro-life. they said “The living but unborn are persons in the sight
of God from the time of conception. Since abortion takes a human life, it is not a moral option
except to prevent the death of another person” (General Board of Church & Society of the
United Methodist Church 2011). So they just see that abortion is just taking a another human’s
life whatever the reasons were. The whole point of this is to think that the unborn baby is not just
a thing inside his mother’s body, but a human being.

The other side (Pro-choice)also has strong evidences and maybe stronger reasons than the
other side (Pro-life). One evidence that I saw from the Pro-choice side is strong is “Abortion
Does Not Increase Women’s Risk of Mental Health Problems.“the young women in this study
who had an abortion were no more likely to become depressed or have low self-esteem within
the year of the pregnancy or five years later than were their peers whose pregnancies did not
end in abortion“ (guttmacher.org 2016). So this shows that women who didn’t have abortion
were more likely to be pressed. Another reason that I think is strong for the Pro-choice is that
what if they don’t want the baby or they can’t be responsible for taking care of the baby. One
evidence says that “ Abortion Does Not Increase Women’s Risk of Mental Health Problems”
(guttmacher.org 2016). So this shows that abortion doesn’t affect women's health problems.

People will be confused by now thinking what side to choose. But let me give you an example,
what if you mom in the past before you were born, decided that she doesn't want you, and
decided to abort you, but in the last few minutes, she decided to keep you. In that case, she
would be saved a person’s live, and gave him a chance to live. But you wouldn’t be happy or
even tried to think that she would abort, because you felt how aborted babies be like, they
wouldn’t have a chance to live. In the text, it states, “therefore a woman who becomes pregnant
should accept the pregnancy as the consequence of taking the risk” (bbc.co.uk). I believe that
women should accept the pregnancy whatever her conditions were, becuase it’s not the baby’s
fault. But actually most people voted that she should do abortion just in certain conditions
(Congress.gov 2004).

This issue is important because the percentage of people who said that Abortion should be legal
is close to that percentage that said Abortion should be illegal. In the text, it states, “As
Americans await a decision in the Supreme Court’s first abortion case in years, a slim majority
(56%) now think abortion should be legal in all or most cases. About four-in-ten (41%) say
abortion should be illegal in all or most cases” (pewresearch.org 2016). So what do you think
about this issue?

Thank you,

Amani Abdalla
