Literature Review Rubric

Create a literature review with peer-reviewed articles. You are required to have the following
elements to a literature review:
(1) Introduction (150-250 words)
a. Evaluating how you plan on organizing the literature review
b. Explain the topic
(2) Body
a. The paragraphs are supposed to

Is the message cohesive? Are
you transitioning from one
paragraph to another?
Conclusion:
Do you summarize the
articles and findings? Are
you pointing out the holes
within the research that you
found? Do you mention the
next steps in research?

Grammar & Punctuation


Are the sentences structured
in Subject + Verb + Object
format (active format)?
Are the Proper Nouns
capitalized?
Are there sentences that end
with prepositions?
Is there good word choice, in
which there is diversity in the
verb selection and how
sentences begin?
Are there unnecessary
commas and semi-colons?
Is there missing punctuation
within the paragraph?
Format:
Is the paper formatted in
APA or MLA format?
Is there a heading and page
numbers?
Is the date written in the
correct format?
Is there a title other than
name of the assignment,
such as Essay 3?
Citations/Work Cited Page:
Are the citations in APA or
MLA format?
Are they alphabetized by last
name?
Is the citation indented on
the second line (if
necessary)?
In-text Citations: are they
formatted in APA or MLA
format? Are there too many
citations – which means that
the citations are making an
argument for you?
