i.

What are the main issues that translates into the rationale in the construction of
the Kansai International Airport in the middle of the Osaka Bay?
- The main issues why Kansai International Airport was built in the middle of the Osaka Bay is
because to compete with Tokyo. In order to become like Tokyo, Osaka needs to build
something huge that can attract people and industry to settle down at there so they plan to
build a huge airport. .
- Unfortunately, Osaka do not have any flat surface to build the airport, Osaka also have severe
earthquakes and earthquakes can liquefy the sort of land-fill that might be used to construct
such an island.
- Japan also subject to typhoons (hurricanes in the Pacific). An island airport would have to be
high enough to withstand severe typhoon water surges.

ii. Describe the innovative techniques and solution that allows the construction
team to overcome the airport’s sinking problems.
- To compensate for the sinking of the island, adjustable columns were designed to
support the terminal building. These are extended by inserting thick metal plates at
their bases.
- The construction team also use of sliding joints. Even the glass in the windows
remained intact.
- The construction team come out with the suggestion by sucking the water out of the
sand and shoring up the airport’s foundation.

iii. As an international airport serving major cities in Western Japan, what are the
major concern in terms of maintaining the airport for optimum performance ?
How did the airport designers cater to these major concerns?

- As this airport is located on an artificial island in the Osaka bay it is always facing the
danger of sinking. and the major concern are how to keep the airport continuously
float.
- The designers create something different from what we have been doing, be it in
quality or quantity or both. To produce a considerable, transformative effect, the
innovation must be put to work, which requires prompt diffusion and large-scale
implementation.
iv. What are the facilities provided in the airport, and why are such facilities
important?

- Many facilities are provided in the Kansai International Airport such as Control
Tower, Access via Sea, Osaka International Post Office, Kansai Airport Police,
Parking Lots and Airport Station, Electrical Supply Facilities, Airport Fire Station,
Waste Water Treatment Facilities and Coast Guard Station.
- The Airport aslo provide with 40 remote-controlled cameras that represent as eyes to
monitor and manage everything include traffic jam and emergency situations
- The important of the facilities are can make things easier, make people to get
experience more comfortable and more exciting.

v. After 2 decade’s operation of the airport, what are the current improvements
being made to the airport?
- Dealing with the local residents and users about noise complaining and other issues -
- 24 hours through website so they can take action immediately.
- their water treatment and waste incineration facilities to maintain the highest level of
treatment standards in Japan was developed.
- opened up the venue for learning about the environment for the community

vi. In your opinion, what is the most critical aspect in ensuring sussessful
technological innovation in construction projects?

- In my opinion innovation can be radical in construction projects in response to crisis

or pressure from the external environment, but it can also be incremental where step
by step changes are more common.
- The knowledge of an individual is a valuable asset to an organization. Strategic
planning and the need for growth are seen to require organisations to develop firm
specific patterns of behavior also is the critical aspect in ensuring sussesful
technological innovation in construction projects
