Activity 9 Summary Page

1. Scenario: Middle School Math-Algebra

Cooperative Grouping Khan Academy site Can be used to practice word
problems. Search algebra,
solving equations, two-step
equation word problems.
HOTQ: Get in groups of two. Solve the word problems on your own then compare with
your partner. Once you both agree on the answer, enter into the appropriate box. If stuck
watch the helpful video.

2. Scenario: Middle School Math-Number concepts

Identifying Similarities Popplet Can be used to create graphic
& Differences. organizers.
HOTQ: Create a tree diagram listing the subsets of Real numbers. The top of the tree will
be Real then include subsets: rational, whole numbers, integers, irrational and natural
numbers. Give two examples of each subset. What are the differences between rational
and irrational numbers?
3. Scenario: Middle School Math-Quadratic functions
Non Linguistic Desmos Can be used to graph.
Representation
HOTQ: Given 3x2+5x-2=0, use the quadratic formula to find the values of x. Once solved
plug equation into Desmos. Verify that your x-values are the same as the x-values in the
graph. Determine whether or not the given equation is a function.
4. Scenario: Middle School Math-Tessellations
Homework & Practice Geoboard Can be used to create
tessellations.
HOTQ: Use geoboard to create a semi-regular tessellation. Does a trapezoid tessellate? If
your answer is yes, does it create a regular tessellation?
5. Scenario: Middle School Math-Box and whisker plot
Cues & Questions Desmos Can be used to create a box
& whisker plot.
HOTQ: What do you know about a box & whisker plot? You will now create a box &
whisker plot using the following information. Class quiz scores: minimum score is 74,
25th percentile is 80, median is 85, 75th percentile is 92 and maximum score is a 98. Find
the range and interquartile range.
6. Scenario: Middle School Math-Transformations
Advanced Organizers Math is fun site Used to view
(mathsisfun.com) transformations.
HOTQ: Create a thematic map of the four different transformations a geometric figure
can make and their characteristics. Go to
www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/transformations.html. Click on each transformation
(dilation is not an option) and see how the figures transform in the “try it yourself”
section. Now compare the similarities and differences of each transformation.
