Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with
significant professional and technical experience.

Project Description

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer is needed to serve as a Monitoring and Evaluation

Specialist for the Match Research Unit (MRU) in South Africa. The MRU is committed to
supporting millennium development goals aimed at gender equity, improving maternal and
child health, and combating HIV. Its sexual and reproductive health projects include clinical
trials, qualitative and quantitative studies, evaluations, surveys and product development
projects. The MRU requires particular support in the development of researchers’ data
management skills. With the increasing use of RedCap as an electronic data collection tool,
there is expertise required to develop databases and to be able to build up systems for quality
monitoring. The organization has long relied on collaborators to assist them with much of this
higher-level work in data management and basic analysis. The MRU would like to have at least
one specific member of staff trained on the basics of RedCap and be able to manage projects
requiring higher-level management skills.

As the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, the Response Volunteer will develop the staff’s
research skill at various levels by mentoring staff in project management skills, training them
in data management using RedCap, and training staff to set up project monitoring and
evaluation systems. The Response Volunteer will also provide mentoring in report writing skills
and training staff in Microsoft software to produce materials for conferences. The goal of this
assignment is to work with senior staff to analyze the MRU’s needs in project management and
data analysis, then to use that information to formulate a training and mentoring plan to build
staff capacity across various projects.

It is unlikely that the departure date will change and applicants will be notified if the date does
change. Please only apply if you are available on the date listed and if you can serve for the
entire duration of the project.
