12 SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT FOR ITS PARTICIPATION ON
13 THE ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK
14 DOCUMENTARY SERIES “LIVE PD” AND TO EXPRESS
15 GRATITUDE FOR THE LEGACY OF PROFESSIONALISM
16 THE MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT HAVE SHOWCASED
17 AND FOR THE PRESTIGE THIS HAS BROUGHT TO OUR
18 GREAT STATE.

20 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate deem it
21 absolutely fitting and appropriate to pause in their deliberations to
22 applaud the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) for its
23 efforts to establish positive relationships within the community and
24 for the recognition its participation in “Live PD” has brought to the
25 department’s efficacy and professionalism; and
26
27 Whereas, “Live PD” is a documentary series on the Arts and
28 Entertainment Network that follows law enforcement agencies and
29 patrol officers nationwide. When the show premiered in October
30 2016, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department was one of only
31 half a dozen agencies featured. It is now the only original agency to
32 remain on the show since its inception; and

34 Whereas, originally only airing an episode on Friday nights, the
35 show has since expanded and now airs two episodes per week.
36 RCSD has become the face of “Live PD”, and because of the
37 professionalism exhibited by the deputies of RCSD, “Live PD” has
38 become a top-rated show; and

40 Whereas, people of all ages and backgrounds watch the show,
41 resulting in the fame of the deputies who are showcased on “Live
42 PD”, not only locally, but throughout the United States; and

2 Whereas, using the show to demonstrate transparency in law
3 enforcement, the RCSD has effectively displayed the true meaning
4 of community policing and shown what good law enforcement looks
5 like; and

7 Whereas, “Live PD” has also facilitated numerous fundraising
8 efforts. Many organizations, including those devoted to cancer
9 research, United Service Organizations, churches, and schools, have
10 successfully auctioned off rides-along with “Live PD” deputies,
11 raising thousands of dollars for worthwhile causes; and
12
13 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for
14 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s commitment to the
15 safety and security of the citizens of Richland County and wish the
16 department much continued success. Now, therefore,
17
18 Be it resolved by the Senate:
19
20 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
21 recognize and honor the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for
22 its participation on the Arts and Entertainment Network
23 documentary series “Live PD” and express gratitude for the legacy
24 of professionalism the members of the department have showcased
25 and for the prestige this has brought to our great State.

27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
28 Sheriff Leon Lott and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
