A. project introduction
Check existing building footprints, and repair wrong ones into correct ones in terms of
our building drawing rules. See common errors in “Building interpretation guide”.
Repaired buildings will become green to let you & reviewers easily check your work.

What are the common errors,

check PPT: Building
interpretation guide

Some of them have errors.

B. Most common used tools Useful tools & skills for
building repair project

1. Repair tools: easily repair a building instead of redrawing it

- Repair Line (Z)

- easily repair a building into any shape

- Repair RectAngle (X)

- easily repair a building with right corners

2. Drag line: a simple step to repair a building line

1. Repair tools
- Repair Line (Z)
- easily repair a building into any shape --- add a part or exclude the ground
case B-1-1: Use Repair Line (Z) to add the missing part to the existing building.

Case B-2-1: Ground area is included --- lead to incorrect corner. We can simply drag the
line back to right position to repair this error.

C. Buildings with visible sidewall
● if you see the visible sidewall of a building, draw 3D structure of that building to
make sure the footprint position is correct.
Case C-1: This building shape is correct, just need to drag the sidewall to bottom.

How to draw 3D, check PPT:

Project overview & basic rules

See sidewall Drag sidewall, draw 3D structure

C. Buildings with visible sidewall
● if you see the visible sidewall of a building, and this building has multi-layers,
draw 3D structure of that building to make sure the footprint position is correct.
Case C-2: this building has multi-layers and is drawn wrongly. We should redraw it based on
3D structure drawing rule.

D. Ambiguous cases

• There are some ambiguous cases, because:

1. image is not clear enough
2. buildings are hidden by shadow or trees
3. sometimes there is no evidence to distinguish ground and building
• If you spend too much time on the ambiguous buildings, it will decrease your speed.
So, as long as the size and shape of the building are reasonable, you don’t need to
repair them.
D. Ambiguous cases
1. Image is not clear.
Case D-1-1: Image is not very clear so that this corner might be correct. Don’t
need to repair.
D. Ambiguous cases
1. Image is not clear.
Case D-1-2: Image is not very clear so that this corner might be correct. Both of the
drawings are reasonable. Don’t need to repair.
D. Ambiguous cases
2. Building is hidden by shadow or trees
Case D-2-1: Some part of the building is hidden by the tree shadow. However, the shape and
size of the building are reasonable --- compared to its neighbours, you don’t need to repair.

Shape and size are reasonable

2. Building is hidden by shadow or trees
Case D-2-2: Some part of the building is hidden by
the tree shadow. However, the shape and size of
the building are reasonable --- compared to its
neighbours, you don’t need to repair.

Case D-2-3: Some part of the building is hidden by the tree shadow. However, the shape and
size of the building are reasonable --- compared to its neighbours, you don’t need to repair.

Shape and size are reasonable

D. Ambiguous cases
• 2. Building is hidden by shadow or trees
• For those buildings hidden severely by trees, we need to draw a reasonable shape and size compared to
its neighbours.
• Case D-2-4:The building in the middle is severely hidden under trees. The original size is too small --- not
reasonable compared to its neighbours. So we need to repair this building using reasonable imagination.

Too small, not reasonable

Shape and size are reasonable now

D. Ambiguous cases
• 2. Building is hidden by shadow or trees
• For those buildings hidden severely by trees, we need to draw a reasonable shape and
size compared to its neighbours.
• Case D-2-5:The building is severely hidden under trees. So we need to draw this building
using reasonable imagination.

Use reasonable imagination

D. Ambiguous cases
3. sometimes there is no evidence to distinguish
ground and building

Case D-3-1: The arrow area can be ground or deck of

the building. It is hard to say. So it is an ambiguous
case. Both of the two drawings are reasonable. We
don’t need to repair.

E. Tilted buildings
• Tilted buildings need to be rotated to right position. Short cut in software: F1, F2.
• Usually, buildings on the same side might with same position, aligned very well
with each other.

Case E-2: The building in the middle is tilted
compared to its neighbours --- needs to be rotated.
Summary
• project requirement: repair wrong building shapes into correct ones

• Try to use “Repair tools” and “drag line” skill to quickly repair the wrong
buildings

• Remember to draw 3D structure when you see visible sidewall of a building

• Don’t waste time on ambiguous cases. As long as the building shape and size
are reasonable, you don’t need to repair them.

• Tilted buildings need to be rotated to right position.
