The Use of Internet for Learning at English Department In a State University In

Jambi: Students’ Perspectives

Abstract
The use of Internet for learning has been ubiquitous in teaching learning process. This present
study seeks to explore and describe the use of Internet on teaching learning process. In
particularly, the aim of the case study approach presented in the thesis is to find out students’
perspectives toward the use of Internet for learning at a state university English Department in
Jambi. This research employed qualitative method with a case study approach. By using
purposive sampling, five participants were selected in this study. Researcher used three analysis
strategies; (1) Preparing and organizing data for analysis. (2) Reducing the data. (3) Representing
the data figures. The results of data analysis were five themes related to student’s perspectives
about the use of internet for learning. They are students’ general understanding of Internet for
learning, students’ belief and expectation, students’ interest, issue and constrain, perceived
advantage also disadvantages. Students’ also appear to have an interest in the use of Internet for
learning however, without the instruction from lecturer they did not want to open the model of
learning.
