OLDCARS

Mrs. CM complaints of persistent cough for about two months. The coughing attacks occur for about four
times a day – twice in the morning and twice in the evening almost every day. The cough is productive of
a clear phlegm which is likely a teaspoonful a day. Other associated symptoms she experiences are
dyspnea, orthopnea, sore throat and hoarseness. She reports that her coughing affects her previous work
for which she decided to discontinue; and that dyspnea affects her sleep, awakening her at night, for
which she sleeps sideways or by sitting and putting pillows on her chest and leaning on it for relief. She
reports that her coughing is aggravated by dust and smoke exposure, for which she is constantly exposed
to second hand smoke due to her son who smokes daily. She self-medicates with Ambroxol, Tuseran,
Acetylcysteine for three times a day for which she takes these alternately for 2 days when she thinks that
her condition is not improving. She also said that she takes Vicks syrup and a glass of calamansi juice for
temporary relief.
