Dear Parents,

Our names are Anne Marie MacKenzie and Heidi Huiner. We are currently juniors at the
University of Dayton and are Early Childhood Education majors with endorsement licensures in
4th and 5th grade and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist. Throughout our time thus far at the
University of Dayton, we have been placed at Madison-Trotwood elementary school in the
second grade. We then were placed at the Bombeck Family Learning Center in various
classrooms throughout our sophomore year. Last semester, we were placed in a 5th grade
classroom at Northridge middle school and St. Alberts. This semester, we have been placed in
your child’s classroom at Kemp Elementary for our field placement assignment. Once a week we
observe and interact in the classroom throughout the morning and have gotten to know your
child. As part of our education, we have created a science lesson to teach to your child’s class.
Our specific lesson is on the senses, more specifically the sense of touch. Our lesson includes
discussing and identifying the different senses and continuing to focus on the sense of touch in
regards to different textures, temperatures, and consistencies involved in that sense. We have
created multiple concepts and activities for this lesson including a PlayDoh activity, an egg drop,
and a sand activity. We look forward to implementing this lesson in your child’s classroom. We
have learned so much through our experiences with your child and the class as a whole, and we
look forward to continuing to grow in our education development throughout our time at Kemp
Elementary. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,
Anne Marie MacKenzie and Heidi Huiner
