I am excited to submit my application for the ICU Nurse Residency Program at PeaceHealth Southwest. I will
graduate in May from The University of Arizona School of Nursing, with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
I am interested in PeaceHealth’s nurse residence program because, in part, of PeaceHealth’s vision and mission
of commitment to promoting health, relieving pain and suffering, and treating each person in a caring manner.

As a nursing student at the University of Arizona, I have been given the opportunity to work in a variety of
healthcare settings throughout the Tucson area. These experiences have allowed me to gain skills in the nursing
profession and demonstrate compassion, caring and acceptance of individual differences with both diverse and
vulnerable populations. My clinical rotations have allowed me to exercise and strengthen my abilities to
collaborate with a variety of health care professionals to promote the health. I have a passion to provide
evidenced based nursing care with all of my patients. I am most interested in caring for those most
compromised in the Intensive Care Unit. My interest in caring for intensive care patients comes from the many
hours I spent working in the ICU settings throughout my clinical rotations as well as during my senior
preceptor, where I worked 188 hours in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Northwest Medical Center in
Tucson, Arizona.

Additionally, over a period of several years I have developed my leadership, communication and professional
skills in a variety of settings. In the summer of 2017 I worked as an Emergency Medical Services Intern for the
Portland Fire Bureau where I collaborated with both medical and administrative professionals. This experience
allowed me to further understand the gap in care between paramedics and nurses, giving me some skills and
abilities to help bridge this gap. I have also worked as a nursing assistant allowing me to gain the perspective of
health care at the aide level. These opportunities have allowed me to strengthen my leadership, communication
and professional skills with a diverse group of professionals in the health care community.

My clinical and professional experiences, and completion of an accredited nursing program at The University of
Arizona have prepared me to be a great team member at PeaceHealth.

Sincerely,

Janae Benson
