1. INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY (WARM UP)

A. GOALS:
- Students will begin by doing 2 stair laps (Up and down the mezzanine), daily
stretches, and completing 40 pushups and 50 crunches. Stretches include:
o Knee Hugs
o Ankle Grabs
o Spider-mans
o Groiners
o Over-Unders
o Pushups, crunches
B. FORMATION:
- Students will be instructed to do their stair laps, line up on the baseline and then
perform various stretching exercises to loosen up.
C. SAFETY:
- Give adequate space between each student as stretches are being done.
- Stretch in your “lane” to avoid collisions of any kind.
D. TRANSITION:
- After completion of warm up, after students get a drink, have them all meet up
at the badminton nets. (mezzanine)

2. LESSON FOCUS – UNDERSTAND EEACH HIT AND HOW TO PERFORM THEM CORRECTLY:

A. OBJECTIVES:
- Students will develop a sense of accuracy, serving the birdie over from the
service box over the net and into the hula hoop on the floor on the other side.
o Students will get 2 points for landing in the hula hoop and 1 point if it
lands in the receiving box itself.
o Students must score at least a 10 to show they are sufficient within the
skill of serving.
- Students will learn the art of the dink/drop shot by performing back and forth
hits of 10-15 consecutive times within the boundaries given to them.
o Students will be assigned partners and tap the birdie back and forth for
around 5-10 minutes.
FORMATION:
- Students will be assigned a partner, grab a racket and a birdie, and find a court.
B. EXPLANATION OF ACTIVITY:
- Serving:
o Student 1 will serve the birdie 10 times, attempting to land the birdie in
the hula hoop. Student 2 will retrieve the birdie and toss it back to them
after each serve, keeping score. After 10 serves, the students switch
roles.
- Dink/Drop Shots:
o Keeping the same partners they had for the serving activity, Student 2
will be instructed to go over and get a racket for himself, and return back
to their partner.
o Student 1 and 2 will be instructed to lightly hit the birdie back and forth
over the next to work on perfecting the dink/drop shot.
C. SAFETY:
- Students should always pay attention to others around them.
- Students will focus on accuracy for the serving portion of the lesson, and focus
more on the form and velocity of the dink/drop shots.
D. TRANSITION
- Once students have circulated through a couple times, allow them to play a few
games utilizing these new skills.
E. EVALUATION:
- The students will be evaluated through observation during each skill
development activity, and will receive positive reinforcement and corrective
feedback as necessary.
- Students will be evaluated on accuracy, form, and overall effort and attitude of
the lesson.
F. ADAPTATIONS:
- If there is an odd number of students participating, the lone student could serve
the birdie against the wall by themselves, aiming for the marked spot on the
wall, simulating the correct location for a sufficient serve.
3. CLOSURE:

A. OBJECTIVES:
- Students will place rackets and birdies in box, then be able to show knowledge of
each new skill by answering responsive questions correctly.
B. FORMATION:
- Students will form half circle around the teacher for closing
questions/comments.
C. EXPLANATION OF ACTIVITY:
- Teacher will check understanding by asking sample questions.
1. Where should you try to place a serve?
2. Why are dink/drop shots important?
