DMM AND SBJMA PRESENT JMARC

NEWS

DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING Management (DMM), through the San Beda Junior


Marketing Association (SBJMA) has presented its first official research journal, the Journal
of the Marketing Research Congress (JMARC) last March 23, 2018 at the Sabater’s Garden.
JMARC is a compilation of the best marketing research papers produced in the final
defense as a requirement for the course, Marketing Research and Information System (MKC04),
or popularly called by students as “MarkRes”.
It was registered at the National Library of the Philippines to become a valid source of
research material for students.
The very first volume was launched during the 6 Marketing Research Congress (MARC)

in November 2017, it is the compilation of the Top Ten Best Marketing Research Papers produced
in Academic Year 2016-2017 that underwent an evaluation by the different set of panel, coming
from different universities, who were also invited to be members of the Editorial Board of
JMARC.
JMARC’s roots can be traced back at the birth of the Marketing Research Congress
(MARC) in September 2011. It was Prof. Jojo M. Villamin and Dr. Maria Pamela G. Tendero who
started the said congress to celebrate the works of Marketing students, both professors were able
to send students overseas to present their researches in Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan and,
even in France.
The event commenced with an opening remarks by Prof. Gregorio S. Borja III, the Chair
of the Department of Marketing Management (DMM), who shared some background and history
of how MARC and JMARC has evolved throughout the years.
Then, the core people of JMARC were presented, namely, Rafael Martinez, Carlo
Abadilla, Miguel Andrei Dabu, Kirby Cruz, Hans Macatangay, Dennis Abobo, and Joseph De
Guia, who all shared their experiences, memories and struggles faced when they were writing
their Marketing Research papers.
Dr. Christian Bryan S. Bustamante, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS),
Prof. Julius Tutor and the former Creative Director of SBJMA, Jonah Espitola, who were present
in the event, gave their feedback and insights about JMARC and research.
In an interview with the activity chairs Rafael Martinez, Vice-President for Research and
Education and Lancelot Mikhail Abude, Vice-President for Membership, Martinez explained the
two objectives of JMARC and the importance of research.
“First, is basically, to be a valid source of research material for the other students to be
used. The second objective of JMARC is to help other students from other schools; we want them
to feel how it is to be a Bedan marketer. We want them to realize the importance of research when
it comes to the real world, when it comes to the industry, that most of the time whenever you hear
research it’s boring, but the truth is, research is very crucial when it comes to success of a
particular business or company”, he said
In a short interview with Prof. Gregorio S. Borja III, the Chair of DMM, he said that the next
volume of JMARC is already on the works.
“For this year, the next volume is already on the works. And we hope to release that on
our next JMARC, this coming October,” he said.
