1. Please give a short description of your involvement/ experiences in environmental activities/

projects.

One year ago I began environmental project to solve problem in my society about papaya skin
in Bangka Belitung Island, Indonesia. This idea arose because a lot of papaya skin waste was
not used and left decompose naturally causing bad smell in that area. Then I thought and
supported by literature these papaya skin waste could be processed into bio-batteries (primer
batteries). Papaya skin wastes could solve another environment problem about dangerous
batteries waste. Because batteries represent a large volume of toxic and hazardous material in
common use and these material must be throughout life cycle to avoid harm to environment
and human health. This project could increase the added-value of papaya skin altogether solve
environment problem. Bio-batteries from papaya skin are renewable energy, environmentally
friendly, and economic value. I developed bio-battery from papaya skin waste in simply way
by removing electrolyte of zinc-carbon battery and replaced it by papaya skin waste.
Afterwards bio-batteries are measured its voltage. Another my experience in environmental
project is improvement of water quality in society especially pH water because generally
Bangka Belitung Island has acidic water. This environmental project was my Department of
Chemistry lecturer project and I was very interested and motivated to join that project. I
contacted them and I wanted to participate that project. Then they allowed me to join that
project. In that project, I demonstrated to society how to improve water quality by raising pH
water using water filter from egg shell waste. This component of water filter from egg shell
waste can improve pH water till neutral. This project can improve water quality of society and
solve egg shell waste problem in environment. Based on these experiences, I am more
motivated to make and participate in environmental project to solve environment and society
problems by developing innovative solution to support sustainable development goals.
2. What contribution can you make (as youth) regarding sustainable development goals (SDGs)
and its related issues in your country after attending the workshop? Please briefly explain
your ideas.

The availability of clean water is one of the issues that it is not resolved properly in Indonesia
while necessity of clean water increase rapidly due to necessity of people, agriculture, and
industry. This is exacerbated by environmental pollution activities such as illegal mining,
littering and other waste disposal into water. My contribution is focus on improving water
quality in society in order that it can improve public health quality. Clean water is one of main
SGDs 6 topic: clean water and sanitation. Ways to improve water quality i.e. water quality
education and water quality management. In water quality education I want increasing
awareness about clean water to society by making innovative education game about clean
water. This game can more introduce about clean water, water pollution, and the importance
of clean water availability. This game is done in school with group of student. In this game
the student doing simply way for clean water sustainability based on rule of game that they
can be modified depend on clean water problems in that area. This game can improve
awareness about clean water to society especially youth. In water quality management I can
contribute in making innovation in environmental project with my Department of Chemistry
or partner with society for example water filter, water distillation and waste processing that
polluted water. This innovation can be made by various wastes to control waste (win win
solution). Beside those activities, in our daily life we can support SGDs such as saving
electricity by turning off lights and appliances when not in use, recycling paper and plastic to
keep landfills from growing, using appropriate water for taking shower, washing and
cleaning, using green appliances and energy-saving light bulbs, bringing drinking water in
reusable bottle to reduce plastic bottle etc. If this simple way is done by everyone so we can
make huge different to make better place for ours and I feel the environmental problems can
be solved that start from ourselves to make better change.
