Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The video can be played in different languages for students who speak
different languages. There are also closed caption options as well. This video can also be played at home
incase a student may need some additional watch time with potential help from a parent or parapro for
understanding.
Lesson idea implementation: This lesson plan should be used for introducing standard MGSE1.MD.3 in first
grade. This standard requires that students be able to tell and write time in hours and half hours for both
analog and digital clocks. The video attached at the url mentioned above is a good tutorial in explaining the
importance of clocks and times, why they matter to us, what they tell us, and the parts of the clock. I would
introduce the video by asking students their own opinion of what time is, why it is important, and what they
know about clocks. Between the video and the quiz, this should be approximately a seven to ten minute
introduction. The questions asked introducing this video along with the quiz after the video assesses student
learning for this introduction along with prior knowledge of the subject. The teacher should see each

student’s quiz score before he or she closes the window.

The video itself only covers the lower categories of LoTi, ISTE-S, and Bloom’s, this is because the video is
meant to be an introduction to the subject. The teacher should build on these through other learning
activities including using real clocks (both digital and analog), incorporating the importance of time into the
day, and having students from a time schedule for their own ideal day that they show with moveable clock
accomplishing LoTi level four/Integration, ISTE-S four/Innovative Designer, and Bloom’s “Apply” stage. The
lesson should be concluded with the students completing this last activity with the teacher challenging them
to record how many parts of their written schedule are accomplished from that day on. This lesson should
only assess the student by roaming the classroom and checking the student’s written work and moving the
clock. A formative quiz on this should be given at a later date.

Reflective Practice: This lesson idea was created to be an introductory activity to a unit of study, telling time
on clocks. To further extend the lesson, students will continue with practice on reading both analog and
digital clocks. Coolmath.com has some games that students could play with as practice for learning how to
read clocks.
