Record of Students’ Performance Rubric Criteria

1. Lining-up Place Values:

A) Students understand that in order to add or subtract correctly they must add the same place values. In other words,
tenths place value of a number adds or subtracts with the other number’s tenths place value. For example:
2.36
+ 1.56
B) Students must know the place value of a digit within a number. For example, 1.23, the 1 is in the ones place value
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.B7
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value,
properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the
reasoning used.
2. Regrouping: Students understands that a group of ten becomes a one in the next higher place value. For example, when
adding 1.6 + 1.4, the students understands that 6 + 4 tenths makes ten tenths which is equal to one one; therefore the answer is
3.0.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.C.5
Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100, and use this technique to add two fractions with
respective denominators 10 and 100.2 For example, express 3/10 as 30/100, and add 3/10 + 4/100 = 34/100.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.A.1
Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For
example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
3. Adding and Subtracting Skills: Students are able to correctly add or subtract numbers.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.4
Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
4. Word Problem Solving Skills
A) Students must understand what the problem is asking them to solve.
B) Students must identify a strategy, make a plan, and solve the problem.
CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
Mathematically proficient students start by explaining to themselves the meaning of a problem and looking for entry points to its solution.
They analyze givens, constraints, relationships, and goals. They make conjectures about the form and meaning of the solution and plan a
solution pathway rather than simply jumping into a solution attempt.
CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP4 Model with mathematics.
Mathematically proficient students can apply the mathematics they know to solve problems arising in everyday life, society, and the
workplace.
