This source gives and overview of deforestation and why it is a problem for forests and
our environment as a whole. This source helps the reader realize the substantial amount
fields a minute). It lists multiple causes, and the reasons for said causes (illegal logging,
fires). It gives multiple examples of why deforestation is bad such as speeding up climate
change, causing habitat loss and ultimately loss of some species. The purpose of this
the equivalent of 27 soccer fields is being cut down every minute really stuck out to me.
It is surreal that that many trees are being cut down every minute. 18.7 million acres of
forests are cut down every year, and many of them are not re-planted properly, or even at
all. This source is relevant to my inquiry project because I am researching the state of our
world’s forests, and since deforestation is one of the biggest problems that our forests

president of the WWF’s (World Wildlife Foundation) Global Forest & Trade Network,
Linda Walker, has a BA in Geography from Bucknell and a Master’s degree in Forestry
from Yale. The vice president, Kerry Cesario, has a BS degree in Biology from UNC
Chapel Hill, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Yale as well.
These women have also studied the pulp and paper industry in Indonesia, and worked
alongside a logging company in Vancouver, Canada. Both of these women have been in
this field for over a decade and are most definitely qualified to be writing on the subject.
