INTRODUCTION
MOTHERBOAR DEFINITION

The motherboard itself is literally divided into two syllables, which in English are
"Mother" and "Board". "Mother" which when interpreted into the Indonesian
language means the mother / mother / main, while the "board" which means is the
board. So if the two syllables are united, it will mean "master board" or "main board".
Ordinary motherboard we find in a computer device, like the name motherboard
shaped a PCB board, motherboard function in a computer is a place to connect all
devices or other components of the computer to have connections between devices
with each other

Little see about the above motherboard understanding, of course can be imagined
that this motherboard is suitable to be said as a board or main board. Because every
component on a computer like, hard drive, RAM, processor, VGA and others will not
work if it does not exist and not attached to a motherboard. So it can be said also that
the motherboard is a very vital device in the computer, if the motherboard is damaged
as burned due to konsleting for example, then automatically a computer will not be
able to walk. Another thing if the other device is damaged, for example if the VGA or
which is defined as a graphic card is damaged, then a computer will still be able to
run.

Motherboards are manufactured in various sizes, some are made specific to a

specific system brand. But most modern mobo is made to be ready to be installed into
various sizes of casing. Mobo mounted inside the casing facing towards the side of the
casing that is easy to open, and tightened by using a screw.

A. DISCUSSION
1. Parts Of Motherboard

The motherboard consists of many electronic components inside, just like any
other electronic device, the motherboard is always changing from time to time even
though it basically has the same function but when viewed in terms of the
motherboard component one with the other motherboards, the arrangement may be
slightly different, according to their needs .

Before discussing what are the components that exist in motehrboard, it would
be nice if we understand first the types of motherboards. here are some types of
motherboards:

a. AT Baby / AT

AT type motherboards are the formats used in the first 386 and 486
computers. Then the format is replaced with ATX format, which formats form a
better air circulation than before, making it easier to access computer
components.

b. ATX

This type of ATX motherboard can be upgraded to a type of AT baby, it is

meant to improve and make it easier for us as a user. These motherboard types are
designed to embed peripherals as easily as possible, eg IDE connectors that are
located next to the disc. Types of these motherboards are standard ATX, micro
ATX, Flek-ATK, and mini-ATK.

c. BTX

Types of BTX motherboards are intended to support Intel types designed to

improve component settings, so as to optimize air circulation, acoustics, and heat
control. The connectors in this motherboard are installed in parallel to the
direction in which air flows. The BTX power cord is the same as the ATX power
supply.

d. ITX

2
Mini-ITX b. Nano-ITX ITX Motherboard is the format of (Extended
Information Technology). This type of motherboard supported by Via, is a very
compact format designed for miniature configurations such as mini-PCs. While
the same type with this motherboard is mini-ITX and nano-ITX.

2. Components of Motherboard

After we discuss the types of motherboards, now we directly discuss what

components of the motherboard:

a. Power Connector

It is an important link that connects the motherboard with power sup

b. Socket or Slot Processor

The socket is where the processor holder on the motherboard. The holder is
rectangular with small holes where embedded processor legs (pins) are arranged
to form a 2-dimensional matrix. The arrangement, location, and distance between
holes exactly match the order, location, and distance between pins on the
processor.

The term socket (its full name is the CPU socket or processor socket) has been
used extensively in the computer world to describe connecting connectorsThe

The term socket (its full name is the CPU socket or processor socket) has been
used extensively in the computer world to describe connectors that connect
motherboards to processors, especially for desktop and server computer types.
The processors here are mainly Intel x86 architecture processors.

c. Socket Memory

There are 2 kinds of memory sockets on the market that is DIMM and SIMM.
There is also a new type of Ramboo-DRAM but not widely used.

d. Standby Power LED

Is an indicator of the power on the motherboard, the LED will light up when
detecting standby power into a reminder that you turn off the power before you
turn off or turn on your computer.

e. Port Mouse

4
It is a green link and has 6 pins to connect with the mouse.
f. Parallel Port and Serial
Is a port that can be used for various functions. On motherboards of type
AT,serial and parallel ports are not integrated but are connected by cables.
with ATX type both parallel port and serial port are all integrated in one
motherboard.

g. Port Rj-45
Is a port that has 25 pins and serves to connect the Network connector via a
network center.

h. USB port
An available port for connecting motherboards with USB 2.0 devices.

i. VGA port

5
Is a port that has 15 pins for VGA monitors or other VGA devices.

j. Onboard keyboard.
It is an important link. There are 2 kinds of connectors that connect the
keyboard withthe motherboard ie serial link and connecting PS / 2. Serial and / or
AT-type connectorsare usually rounded larger than the PS / 2 model with 5 pin
holes. While the leverage PS / 2has 6 pin holes with a diameter smaller than the
serial model or AT model

l. Chipset
The first and foremost part of a motherboard is the chipset, which serves as the
interface interface between the processor and various external components and
buses. This type of chipset that can determine and assess the features and
capabilities of a motherboard.

6
m. Socket / CPU Slots
Socket is where "bersemayamnya" processor on the motherboard. Just like
chipsets, this socket is also divided into various types, depending on the type of
processor it supports.

n. Basic Input Output System (BIOS) Chip

BIOS is a chip that stores software to control hardware and serves as an
interface between hardware and operating system (OS). The BIOS is used by the
computer to prepare the boot process (startup) and check the system and hardware
readiness before the compute

o. Memory Slots
Slot in the form of rather long and slender it serves as a place to install
Random Access Memory (RAM). In the era of modern computers, almost all
mobos have at leasttwo RAM slots, even on high-end computer specifications
there is a motherboard equipped with up to 6 slot

7
p. VGA Slots (Graphic Card Slot)
This slot serves to install the component graphic card (video
card). On modern computers, it is generally a slot with the PCI-Express interface.
On high-end motherboards can accommodate up to 3 graphics card slot.

q. Expansion Slot
Expansion slot serves to install additional devices such as Sound Card, LAN
Card, etc.

r. Storage Drive Connector

Its function is to connect data storage devices such as Hard Drive, Optical
Drive, SSD, and external storage devices. Usually a S-ATA (Serial Advanced
Technology Attachment) / ATA interfac

B. Conclusion
1. Mother Board is a board / board or main board where all devices are installed
starting from processor, memory, slots for expansion, etc. Mainboard is not less
important with the processor.

2. mainboard function in general is to channel the input and flow of data needed in the
process in the computer.
3. parts of the motherboard that is:
a. Socket Processor
b. Chipset
c. RAM slot
d. IDE port, FDD port
e. Serial Port and Parallel Port
f. PCI (Periperal Component Interconect)
g. ISA (Industry Standard Architecture)
8
h. AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port)
In choosing or assembling Mother Board is that every Motherboard has
differentspecifications for each brand or type.
4. The terms found on the motherboard: Bios, Bus, Clock Speed, FSB, Heatsink.
5. How the motherboard works is peripherals-peripherals will be inter-connected in the
mainboard and can forward instructions through the paths on the board. All
connected peripherals will become a complete computer system.
6. the principle of the whole computer work begins to enter data from the input device,
then the data is processed in such a way by the CPU as we want and the data has
been processed earlier stored in the computer memory or disk. The stored data can
be viewed through the output device.
