handled the case ruled in favor of the
funeral home and dismissed the case, but
the Sixth Circuit reversed the dismissal and
allowed the case to continue. The appeals
court rejected the funeral home owner’s
argument that his decision to terminate
the employee should have been protected
because it was motivated by his religious
beliefs. The Court of Appeals reasoned
that the compelling governmental interest
in eradicating employment discrimination
against transgender persons under Title
VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 trumps
