WEBSITE OPTIMIZATION FOR CRICBUZZ-
Search engine optimization (SEO), or website optimization, is the process of making changes to your
website so that it will appear higher in search engine results pages (SERPS). Based on a number of factors,
search engines evaluate your website's relevance and readability before assigning it a position or ranking
on the search engine results page. The more relevance the search engines determine your website has for a
given search, the higher the website will rank. When you consider that more than 60% of Internet users will
not look beyond the first page of search results, it's important to use search engine optimization to push
your ranking as high as possible.
SEO services for website optimization address a variety of factors, including: keyword selection, adding
and refreshing content, creating search-engine friendly design, building links, and resolving technical issues
that may drive search engines away. Website optimization (often referred to as CONVERSION RATE
OPTIMIZATION) is the process of systematically improving the performance of your website to meet your
business objectives. Whether your goal is to get more leads, sales, or reduce customer service phone calls,
website optimization can be used to make your website more effective at meeting those goals.
The process for optimizing your website follows the same principles as conversion rate optimization. In
fact, the two terms are often used interchangeably. Website optimization is best conducted as an ongoing
process that over time makes your website more effective and valuable for you. By following the process
below, you can improve the performance of your website through continual optimization.

PROCESS-
1. Establish a hypothesis – Review your analytics and look for parts of your funnel that are
performing poorly, such as pages with high bounce or exit rates. Collect qualitative feedback
from visitors as to why they’re not converting. You can brainstorm potential causes of poor
performance to build a list of website optimizations to test.
2. Prioritize – After building your list of potential optimizations, you need to put them in priority
order. Put them in a spreadsheet and rank them in order of their anticipated impact, your
confidence in their potential to improve performance and how easy it is to implement the change.
3. Test your optimizations – A/B testing your website optimizations is the next step. Keep changes
that improve the performance of your site, eliminate those that don’t.
4. Analyze tests – Review the testing data to determine which hypotheses were true and which
weren’t. By implementing the winning tests you’ll optimize your website for higher conversions
with each winning variation. Make sure you don’t end tests too early so that you don’t fall victim
to misleading testing data.
5. Optimize your website – Put your winning tests into play and learn from tests that didn’t win.
Use both outcomes as inspiration for successive tests to run. Remember, website optimization is
an ongoing process that produces its best gains over time.

Report of Cricbuzz:-

Analysis:

The total number of objects on this page is 89 which by their number will dominate web page
delay. Consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Above 20 objects per page the
overhead from dealing with the actual objects (description time and wait time) accounts for more
than 80% of whole page latency. See Figure II-3: Relative distribution of latency components
showing that object overhead dominates web page latency in Website Optimization Secrets for
more details on how object overhead dominates web page latency. Combine, refine, and
optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and
minimize HTTP requests. Consider using CSS sprites to help consolidate decorative images. Using
CSS techniques such as colored backgrounds, borders, or spacing instead of graphic techniques
can reduce HTTP requests. Replace graphic text headers with CSS text headers to further reduce
HTTP requests. Finally, consider optimizing parallel downloads by using different hostnames or a
CDN to reduce object overhead.

Analysis On Printability:
Around 5 pages of this website do not appear to be optimised for printing (using CSS).

Add printable stylesheets for all pages, wherever possible. In most cases, websites can share printable
stylesheets over many or all pages, as with screen-based stylesheets. This website doesn’t have the printing
format because of the comic copyright.
All pages were found to use defined headings. This is excellent as it allows visitors and search engines to
summarize the content of webpages quickly. Correctly defined headings aid accessibility and are
particularly important for search engine optimization.
Some pages did not define headings correctly. The H1 tag should be used for the most top-level heading,
with H2 being used for sub-headings and H3 for further sub-headings and so-on. Not conforming to this
convention may confuse visitors.
Ensure that headings are defined in a semantically correct way, i.e. always start with a H1 tag. This is used
to summarise the page content. Further tags (H2, H3, H4 etc) are meant to summarise and partition sections
within the content.
All pages were found to specify page titles, but one page has a relatively weak title which could be
improved. Page titles appear in search results and at the top of the browser's window when visiting the site.
Appropriate page titles are particularly important for search engine optimization.
Make sure that all pages have a descriptive title. Do not include the address of the page in the title, try not
to use excessive punctuation and avoid common words like 'page'.

This website redirects smartphone users to a mobile site at http://m.cricbuzz.com/.

Having a mobile site is good, but the best way of adapting a website for different screen sizes is to use
CSS media queries.
We found 304,847 Facebook likes and 0 Google +1s for the 5 pages we tested.
Encourage sharing of your content with social media buttons on articles and pages of your website. The
amount of social activity a website should have depends very much on the type of website, its target
audience, and how long it has been in operation.

This website handles missing pages correctly by sending a 404 HTTP status code.
This website was served with GZIP encoding. This is very good because it reduces the loading time of a
web page.
One page of this website returns page content with or without a trailing slash on its URL. Search engines
might see these as separate pages with duplicate content which they could penalise for.
Use a 301 redirect or a canonical meta tag to force search engines to see the correct version.
This website uses a temporary (HTTP 302) redirect from http://cricbuzz.com to http://www.cricbuzz.com.
This is OK, but a permanent (HTTP 301) redirect is considered best practice.
This website has an average of 966 words per page. The amount of content on a website has been
shown to correlate with its search engine ranking.

STRATEGIC RECOMMENDATIONS-
1. It should start streaming live cricket matches of every kind.
2. It should start doing some online matches for viewers so that engagement on site continues
after series also and there should be some prizes for them also.
3. It should link itself to other sites also so that people can be redirected from there like hotstar
has done.
4. It should start its own radio channel so that in case of low internet connectivity people can
enjoy commentary also.
5. It has to add on some features for which it can monetize itself like live cricket streaming,
providing passes and coupons to various events etc.
6. It should engage itself in some PR events so that it can make its presence in a wider way
irrespective of a cricket brand like selling of cricket accessories, cricketing events etc.
7. It’s a very heavy site and consumes lots of data so it should be made data friendly.
