 DRONES
With the increasing use of drones for surveying, photog-
raphy, surveillance as well as amusement we felt it would
be worthwhile outlining the restrictions that exist on these
devices. (Ed)
Pilots of drones weighing 2kg or more need to register
with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and
have an operator's certificate before their UAVs
(unmanned aerial vehicles) go zipping through the public
airspace. But it's a different story with smaller recrea-
tional drones – the ones you can now buy at retailers
across Australia.
Recreational drone numbers are rising and the rules
around their use are pretty loose as long as you keep your
UAV under an altitude of 400 feet (121m) and away from
crowds, you don't fly at night, and always make sure it
stays within your line of sight.
CASA has put together a handy quick-reference guide
that breaks down all the flight regulations for new pilots.
But what if you're on the receiving end of a drone's gaze?
It's no secret that many recreational drones are equipped
with cameras – and that people can be nosy.
As it stands, your protection against unauthorised
surveillance is limited. The Privacy Act, for instance,
only applies to organisations with an annual turnover of
$3 million or more. Most recreational drone owners
would be under that threshold.
Anti-stalking legislation may forbid such activity in some
cases. Legislation around surveillance is piecemeal,
inconsistent, and in some cases outdated. No one's really
sure how existing privacy laws apply to recreational
drones. All this could change in the years to come.
CASA is planning to review recreational drone
regulations and potentially have new ones in place by the
end of the decade, although the federal agency has no
jurisdiction over privacy issues.
Fines for illicit drone activity currently range from around
$900 to $9000.
What are the current rules?
Under the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998, UAVs
weighing 2kg or less cannot fly:
- higher than 400 feet (121m) in a controlled airspace
(generally meaning any populated area)
- closer than 30m during take off, flight or landing to any-
one not involved in flying the drone
- over a large group of people at a height from which, if
any of the drone's components fail, they may land on
people
- over or near prohibited or restricted areas (such as an
aerodrome or restricted military areas)
- in bad weather, into a cloud or at night.

JOSEPH
No half measures!
Whatever side Joseph was on he gave it his best shot; and still
does. In his early days in his native Chennai, India, Joseph was
so fully committed to a runamuck life-style that even his
mother prayed for him to die - so that he would stop dishonour-
ing the family!
Then at age fifteen he nearly did. During an evangelis-
tic crusade (with his mum) he was impacted by a question the
preacher asked, 'Where would you be spending eternity if
you died tonight?' And on the way home, he was hit by an
auto rickshaw and hospitalised.
Joseph was not expected to live, due to the damage to
his cerebellum. And he was in a very bad way for about three
months when his faith was so strengthened by a Bible passage
he read - Ecclesiastics 12.1, “Remember your Creator in the
days of your youth...”, that twenty-four hours later he was de-
clared healed. The doctors called him a miracle boy!
He then (sensibly), committed his life to this One he
was told would forgive all his sin and give him eternal life; and
his behaviour radically changed.
Even though he had a new life it wasn't easy, as he
was very poor and had to rely on faith in Christ for virtually
everything - and even resorted to breaking up a brick to brush
his teeth with the powder. Yet 'somehow' through all this, he
was accepted into a Bible college, joined a service organisation
called Operation Mobilisation, and met Mother Teresa.
Impressed by her authentic life and compassion, he
opened El-Shadai Children Home in 1997 with three boys (now
with forty-two). The first boy is now a young man who has just
become an apprentice and another one has a PhD in Social
Work.
Joseph found danger and persecution to be an ever-
present reality. He was once tied to a tree and about to be set
alight and killed when a greater need amongst his would-be
murderers intervened. The village leader was distressed that his
mother was very ill; and incredibly, Joseph was asked to pray
for her. Although she was paralysed he says, 'God came
through, and she was healed'. And that changed everything.
Joseph and his group were invited to stay for a month, and most
of the village followed Joseph into the Christian life.
Now in Adelaide, Pastor Joseph is sharing his story
and his life's work: rescuing India's children from physical tor-
ment, sexual abuse, starvation and sickness. Girl babies, his
website* states, may be dumped into garbage bins or later ex-
ploited for begging, prostitution, pornography, physical abuse,
torture and bonded labour.

Green waste and cardboard / paper - Environmental
Protection Authority (EPA) legislation bans all councils
state wide from sending these materials to landfill.
Computers and televisions are also be part of this ban.
Therefore these materials can no longer be accepted as
part of our hard waste collection.
The collection point is the Southern Waste Resource
Management on Bakewell Road Seaford Rise (the
Council dump off South Road N of the bridge).
There is no cost. All you need to do is take your Ewaste
to the appropriate tip and they will direct you to the
Ewaste section.
You leave your stuff near two containers and exit the tip
depositing the card they issue you with. This card will
take you off their computer.
This can be done any day of the week.

no people group can single out others for creating havoc.
The ones who wish to have a 'Day of Pride' are the ones
whose pride has been torn from them over centuries.
Unless we acknowledge our ancestors' part in the
unfolding of history as we now have it, we are in grave
danger of failing to become part of the solution for today,
no matter how difficult that may be to achieve.
Yes, there are huge problems. We can help them increase
(that's easy - just point the finger), or we can work
towards a more peace-able future (that's hard - it takes
effort and selflessness). Our governments need to act
wisely, and safeguard our basically equitable legal
system, but also to show compassion.
It is regrettable that this article was printed. It does
nothing to further harmony within our community, as it
gives credence to those within our community, who feel
that Australia should be a 'white only' country, and that
they are at liberty to be nasty to those who come from a
non-white background.
By the way, I am a 67 year old white Christian woman,
whose ancestors came to South Australia from Ireland,
England and Scotland. 'Boat people', as it happens.

Good day Aldinga Bay Residents Association,
I’m just looking to provide you information on upcoming
upgrade works we have planned for our Aldinga WWTP.
As you may be aware inflow into the Aldinga WWTP has
experienced extensive growth in recent years, tripling
over the last 15 years with further growth of over 40
percent anticipated by 2031.
As a result, our upcoming works are designed to ensure
the capacity and performance of the Aldinga WWTP is
able to accommodate the immediate and long term
treatment requirements for the catchment area.
The proposed project includes installation of new inlet
works, a primary sedimentation tank, sludge storage and
removal of treatment bottlenecks.
Construction is anticipated to commence in early March
2018 and take approximately 15 months to complete.
I have wrote (sic) to our nearest neighbours giving a little
more detail on the works, but if you would like any urther
information on our project yourself, please feel free to

The Get Together Club
A club exists in Aldinga Beach for adults with a
disability and their families.
The group encourages friendship, fun, connection and
inspiration.
It is the only group of its kind in the southern area.
The first meeting held at the Aldinga Life Care Hall was
a great success, with families sharing a meal, playing
games, and getting to know each other.
A variety of activities are planned for the monthly group
including singing, painting, puppet making, and guest
chefs. Ideas for activities are welcome and encouraged.
The Get Together Club has received a Community
Grant from the City of Onkaparinga and is also
supported by Minda Incorporated, Carer Support and
Disability SA. New members are always welcome.
The Get Together Club is held on the first Friday of
each month, at the Aldinga Life Care Hall, Pridham
Blvd, Aldinga Beach from 6.30 – 8.30pm.

“A Mature Loan Applicant”

Some of us started late with our foray into home
ownership. It may not seem necessary to our
younger self to have one, or it may not have been
the right time. But now, as you take a deep breath
and blow out the 50 candles on your cake, the
thought of home ownership is growing stronger, and
the time is right to do so.
In today’s world, 50’s are the new 30s. Life’s
celebration has just started. Reaching the milestone
means lower car insurance for one, which is great,
as we are supposedly now wiser and more mature.
If you are looking to purchase a home to live in,
whether it is your first, or an upgrade, unfortunately,
the requirements have just become a tad more
strict. The loan term is likely to be shorter than 30
years, and you’ll also be required to evidence your
Exit Strategy. ASIC (Australian Securities
Investment Commission) is very firm in their
guidance in this area where a loan applicant is over
50 years old.
An Exit Strategy outlines how you plan to pay your
loan on the day you retire (based on 75 years old)
and will no longer receive a wage from which to
make loan repayments. It is not entirely impossible
to obtain a loan when you are over 50 years old. I
have many clients I work with who begin their home
ownership journey after 50. What is important is
that we have a clear exit strategy, such as:
Adequate current income to service the loan within
the shorter loan terms;
Adequate superannuation to pay out the balance of
the loan once you are no longer working;
Have other investments which could be liquidated to
pay out balance of loan at retirement;
Sufficient pension income to service balance of the
loan without incurring financial hardship.

need an exit strategy as such, as it is expected that
the property will be sold at retirement time and loan
paid out, without you having to leave your own
home.
Having the right mortgage broker to help you is
critical in ensuring a successful application with the
right loan and product that is in line with your
retirement plan, without causing financial hardship in

be involved in worship and study groups in the lead up to
Easter. Having had a pancake brunch prior to the begin-
ning of our Lent studies. The study and discussion groups
will focus on ancient and modern issues and are enti-
tled ‘Journeying with Jesus’.
The Evergreens meet on Tuesday mornings at Bethany
Hall throughout March from 11 am.
An alternate study group time is on Sunday mornings
from 9.15am.

March 30 - Good Friday - 9.30am followed by hot cross
