Imposition Studio is available for both Windows & Mac. All options are
available for both platforms regardless of the screen shots in this guide.
Template & Examples
New Layout.. Here you will get 3 options for creating new layouts Layout with Auto Settings, Layout with
Manual Settings and 2 up Book Layout from PDF.
Layout with Auto Settings: Creates new layouts automatically with an easy to understand Auto Layout Assistant
window.
Layout with Manual Settings: Creates new layouts with Manual Layout Wizard. You will get almost all layout
options here. The main difference between auto and manual mode is symbolic page numbers. In auto mode, the
numbers are automatic and in manual mode, you need to put the symbolic numbers after you created the layout.
2 up Book Layout from PDF: Creates a new layout from a PDF you selected. The layout is always in 2 up front
& back mode. This mode is useful when you need to print a book directly from a single PDF file. Open Layout..
Open Imposition layouts stored in your hard disk.
Auto Workflow.. Opens the ‘Automatic Workflow Manager’ window. This window Handle the hot folder
based PDF layout workflow. Please go to section ‘Automatic Workflow’ for more info about workflow.
User Templates: Shows the layouts which saves as a template by the user.
Templates: Shows the built-in templates to use for common layout types and jobs.
Examples: Shows some basic jobs examples to learn the basic concepts of Imposition Studio.
Recent Layouts: Shows the layouts which opened previously by the user.
Main Workspace
Main Workspace
Signature Layout Preview Window is a pure WYSIWYG live preview window to view all signatures elements
including all page details, how the pages output to CTP, image-setter or digital printer. Live preview includes plate,
paper, marks, color control strips and signature position on the plate / film / paper.
Setup Tool panel. You could access many setup windows and status windows from here.
Signature Settings opens the settings window for basic values like page, paper, output, number of page ups,
binding type, output type etc..
PDF Link Settings opens the settings window for importing PDF links to
the document. You may add or remove shuffle pages using that window.
Layout Preferences opens the preferences window for crop marks, register
marks, slug line, PDF colour mode and some basic preferences. If there is no job
opened then the preferences will be saved as default for all new jobs.
Page Properties opens the window for master page settings like symbolic
page number, page rotation, gang run transformations, custom crop marks etc.
You must select the first master signature pages in the signature list to edit the
page properties.
Colours & Separations You may view and examine colours, image modes
used in the imported PDF files.
Templates & Examples Shows the templates & examples window.
Auto PDF Workflow Opens the workflow window to setup and run hot
folder based automatic workflow.
Misc PDF Utilities You can access many PDF based utilities like combine PDF, rotation PDF etc..
Create PDF Output Setup & create final Output PDF files.
Main Workspace
Preview Tool panel. You could access many view toggle check boxes here.
Style: Different styles available for ‘Plain Cut Sheet’ job type.
N-Up: Print each PDF files in sequence.
Step & Repeat: Print each PDF files in row wise, column wise or full repeats.
3 options are available in Step & Repeat mode using the Setup button.
Repeat All: Print single PDF file in all repeats in the signature.
Column Wise Repeat: Print each PDF pages in each columns.
Row Wise Repeat: Print each PDF pages in each rows.
Auto Layout Assistant
Cut & Stack Set: Print all PDF files in separate groups. Each group can stack together to make the sequence. In this
mode The second page of the PDF will print on the next sheet regardless how many PDF columns & rows in the
layout. Use the Setup.. button to open the ‘Cut & Stack Setup’ window to set the number of sheets in a cut & stack
set and the number of pages used in a sheet.
PDF Pages in a Sheet: Here you define the number of ups you want to print in a form. This value include both
sides if the layout is two sided.
Pagination Style: Here you can view the possible layouts which matches the job type and total pages
combinations. Some details in this window are not editable. They only shows the settings in the selected layouts
including page numbers. If auto layout not available with some page and column/row combinations, you need to try
creating the layout manually using the Manual Layout Wizard.
PDF Page Columns : Number of page columns in the layout. In the above screenshot shows 4 columns.
PDF Page Rows : Number of page rows in the layout. In the above screenshot shows 2 rows.
Page Orientation : Sets how the pages positioned on the signature - Vertically of Horizontally.
Signature Sides : Select the number of signatures required to complete a print form. Front & Back jobs require
Two sets to complete the form.
Paper Turning : Set the style of front & back printing with one or two signature sets. This describes how you
turn the paper for backside printing after completing the front side printing.
Single Page Size : Final trim size of the page. Select the preset or enter values in ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ fields.
Swap Sides : Swap front & back signatures in a two sided layout.
‘Manual Layout Wizard’ window is almost identical to the Signature Setup window. We will mention
only the signature window screen shots to describe the signature settings in the guide. For more
information available on above options in the Signature Settings section.
Signature & Imposition Setup
For creating a new printing machine, you need to setup plate gripper and non printable area height
values. Check with your technical person for the correct specification of your printing machines.
Signature & Imposition Setup
Auto PDF Output Size The margin around crop area of a signature and outputs with the margin regardless of
the printing paper size. Put the value on Slug Area Margin field.
Slug Area Margin: This is the margin space around the total trim area of the signature when Auto PDF Output Size
is checked.
Printing Paper Size: Set the size of paper you are planning to feed on the printing machine.
Custom Total Crop Area: Changes the total crop area of a signature. You need this option when gang run printing
need to resize the signature.
Signature Position Shift: Allows you to move the whole signature contents on the signature. This option may use
to align front & back signatures on a digital printing machine. ‘Shift X’ values moves the signature horizontally and
the ‘Shift Y’ values moves vertically.
Reset to Defaults.. Discard all individual pagination settings including page numbers gaps and marks etc. and reset
the layout to defaults.

Imposition
Imposition Method: Allows application to do automatic pagination, binding, spine setting etc. for a book. Auto
Imposition should be selected for all type of Books.
Job Type: Select the job type options. Select ‘Books’ (auto) If you planning to make a book.
Select ‘Folded Leaflet’ for any type brochure jobs which may require folding but no binding.
Select ‘Plain Cut Sheet’ if your job is on a single sheet or the job from a single PDF page with or without folding, ex:
Business Cards, Coupons, leaflets, Boxes etc.
Style: Select ‘N-Up’ to print all imported PDF pages in a sequence. More signatures will be added when required.
Select ‘Step & Repeat’ for jobs with auto repeat to complete the signature.
3 step & repeat modes are available on the ‘Setup..’ button.
‘Repeat All’ mode will repeat all page boxes with a single PDF link.
‘Column Wise Repeat’ mode will repeat all page boxes in each columns with every PDF link.
‘Row Wise Repeat’ mode will repeat all page boxes in each rows with every PDF link.
‘Cut & Stack Set’ is the mode for numbered page groups, so you may stack later to get a sequenced job. PDF links
are printed on each signatures sequentially. For example, PDF link 2 will print on the next signature
and 3 on the next... The next column will start with the page after the sheets in a stack count.
2 Options are available on the ‘Setup..” button
‘Total Sheets in a Stack’ Sets the number of sheets in a stack. In this given example picture, total
sheets in a stack is set to 10.
‘Custom PDF Pages In A Sheet’ is useful to make a layout which place PDF pages different than total
page repeats in a signature. Because you have used repeat PDF pages on the layout. Otherwise
keep the check box unchecked. You need to edit the dynamic pages manually if custom number of pages check box
is checked.
For front & back layouts, keep the back PDF pages after the front PDF pages. Example: Use the front pages as 1,3,5,7...
and back pages as 2,4,6,8..etc. So always keep all backside PDF pages in the second master signature page.
Signature & Imposition Setup
Signature Sides: Select number of signatures required to make a print form. For front & back sheet wise jobs, select
‘2 Sides (Front & Back)’. For single sided, work & turn and work & tumble jobs select ‘1 Side’ for the layout.
Half Form for Extra Pages: On an auto book layout, if the number of pages are not sufficient for making more
than one complete form then the remaining pages are called ‘Extra Pages’. Enabling this option allows to print extra
pages as work & turn or work & tumble single sided half form within the layout automatically.
Half Form Mode: Total 3 modes are available for half form extra pages.
‘Use Outside Pages as Extras’ Extra pages are counted from the outer most sheets in saddle stitch mode.
‘Use End Pages as Extras’ Extra pages are counted from the end pages in perfect binding mode.
‘Use Inside Pages as Extras’ Extra pages are counted from the inner most sheets in saddle stitch mode.
‘Use Starting Pages as Extras’ Extra pages are counted from the starting pages in perfect binding mode.
‘Use Cover Pages as Extras’ Cover pages are counted as extra pages.
Front & Back Paper Turning: This option sets how you turn the paper after completing the one side Printing.
There are two options available for one sided documents.
‘Work & Turn (Left-Right)’ method turns the paper horizontally- Left to Right.
‘Work & Tumble (Up-Down)’ method turns the paper vertically - top to bottom.
When the document contain 2 sides then the terms changed to “Work & Turn-Sheet wise (Left-Right)” and “Work &
Tumble-Sheet wise (Up-Down)” respectively.
These options will affect the page numbers of your signatures.
Total PDF Links Used In A Form: Enter the number of PDF pages to complete a Master Form (including back side
if the document has two sides). Auto Imposition does not require this option. For manual jobs enter only the required
pages exactly. If you planning for ups consider only the required number of source PDF pages for the master form.
Custom Links: Check this option if you want to change the total PDF links in a form
Number of Page Columns: The Number of Horizontally placed PDF Pages in the signature (as per the preview).
Number of Page Rows: The Number of vertically placed PDF Pages in the signature (as per the preview).
Number of Cloned Pages: Useful for creating small books, user manual etc. Small books are very difficult to bind
individually. Clone option creates multiple copy of the books together. Automatically. These Combined books are
separated After the binding to get separate books.
Page Orientation on the Signature: Here you set the page orientation in the given signature - Vertically or
Horizontally. Or Portrait or Landscape.

Page / Box
Default Page Box Size: Set the default final size of the pages not including bleed. You may change sizes and other
properties of individual pages by using ‘Gang Run Transformations..’ or ‘PDF Link Transformations..’ menu item.
Set From PDF Link 1: Set the default final size as the first PDF link you imported to the links window.
Page Crop Width: Width of the default page box
Page Crop Height: Height of the default page box
Horizontal Scale: Percentage Scale for placing the PDF Link file horizontally.
Vertical Scale: Percentage Scale for placing the PDF Link file vertically.
Reading Order: This option is only required if you want to make book in Arabic , Hebrew or similar right to left
writing languages. Otherwise use the default ‘Left to Right’ option. Symbolic Page Numbers will remain same on
both modes. Imposition Studio will place pages according to the mode you selected.
Note: use only ‘Right to Left’ option when the first page of the PDF is the first page of the book in reading order (Last
page of the normal reading books)
All values are common to all pages in the signature unless you changed pages individually..
Width & height values are not dependent of the page orientation of the pages. Enter the values as
per the page preview on the screen.
Signature & Imposition Setup
Binding / Folding
Binding Method: Select the binding method of the Job.
Select ‘Saddle stitch / Stapling Books’ if you planned a stitch of thread or a wire staple to bind the book. This option
not required binding margin. So keep the margin as ‘0’.
Select ‘Perfect binding’. if you planned to bind your book in small folded groups combined and glued on the spine.
Perfect binding may require some binding margin on the spine area.
Section Sewing: Use this option if you want to fold the printed sheets as small sections and each section is then
sewn into the following section along the spine. Then binding together with a cover to make a book. This option
is also useful for some situations when more than one form required for a section sewing or perfect binding group.
Pages In A Section: Enter the number of pages to make a single section.
Creep / Shingling: Saddle stitched books with more pages require creeping to get the pages are aligned on the
outer edge after cutting. Imposition Studio will calculate the value automatically when you enter the correct paper
GSM in the ‘Creep Setup’ window. Check Creep Setup section for more details.
Binding/Routing Margin: Enter the Binding/Routing Margin here. Use 0 for Saddle Stitch / Stapling jobs. For
Perfect binding jobs, use the routing margin required for your binding machine. Included Perfect Binding templates
use 6mm as routing margin. Check with your technical person for the exact values.
Folding Gap Settings: The values in the vertical and Horizontal folding gaps are the default values from the
preferences. Select ‘Apply New Values to all Folding Gaps ‘ to apply new values to all vertical & horizontal values in
the layout. ‘Auto Distribute to Print Run Paper Size’ is an option to keep all the folded pages in same size by
distributing the folding gaps evenly on the specified print run paper size. This will ensure easy folding & binding on
automatic machines.
Use main workspace window to edit individual folding or routing gaps. Check the Edit Gaps section for more
information.
Many of the settings in the ‘Signature Settings Window’ will affect the current layout structure.
Many of the modifications require resetting the layout to apply the changes. All page based
informations like page numbers, rotation etc. may be lost after reset.
Creep Setup
Creep Setup
On saddle-stitched books, inner pages are narrower than outer pages after
cutting. We need to reduce the amount of removed spaces on the layout.
Cut
This process is called creep. Staple
Symbolic numbers are for master form only. Actual pages are differ depend on the number of
imported pages in the PDF links setup. • Create printed proofs of the signatures and check the
pagination and folding thoroughly before final printing .
PDF Links Setup
Page & Bleed Marks.. Allows you to change individual crop & bleed properties of the master page item. This will
apply to all child pages of the master page item.
If the pop-up menu Apply Settings to Current Page is selected then the settings will apply to current master page
only. Other options are Apply to All Pages in Current Row, Apply to All Pages in Current Column, Apply to All Pages
in Current Signature.
Clicking the ‘Page & Bleed Marks’ button will open the ‘Marks & Bleed Settings’ window.
All settings of this master page item will apply to this master page item and all child pages of this
master page item in the document.
PDF Link Transform
Force Update Page Previews: Recreate and save all page previews on save even the remain
unmodified.
Disable Extra Pages: In some layouts, total number of pages may not match with the current layout
scheme, so you may need to make one or more small signatures to complete the book without wasting the
paper. By selecting this option Imposition Studio will automatically calculate the PDF pages required for this
layout and omit other PDF pages for signatures with fewer pages. You can also select / deselect the
imported PDF pages to rearrange the signatures. You may also use the ‘Half Form for Extra Pages’ option in
the Signature Settings window to control the extra pages.
Status notification legends: Some special informative icons will show on
each items on the list for easy notification along with total PDF link
informations.
Transform.. Use this option to shift PDF pages on the signature individually. The values are applied to the
individual PDF pages on Output. Check the Transform section on the next page for more info.
Clicking the ‘Transform’ button will open the ‘PDF Link Transform’ window.
Please note that the PDF link transform options, modify only the selected PDF link. Similar ‘Gang
Run Transform’ options will modify the master page item so it will also change all child PDF boxes
associated with the master page item.

PDF Page Transform: Enable or disable page transformations.
Horizontal Shift (X): Moves the whole page content inside the PDF box horizontally.
Vertical Shift (Y): Moves the whole page content inside the PDF box vertically.
Horizontal Scale (X): Scale the whole page inside the PDF box horizontally in percentages.
Vertical Scale (X): Scale the whole page inside the PDF box vertically in percentages.
Auto Save & Update Preview: Updates all changes instantly on preview window while opening the
‘PDF Link Transform Window’ from the menu.
Please note that all modifications are applied to the imported PDF links only. If you remove the
links then all mofications will also removes with the link. If you want to keep the transform settings,
use the relink button to select a new PDF link.

Output
PDF Color Mode: Sets the color mode of the output file. This will not convert the colors of the placed PDF files.
PDF Version: Sets the PDF version of the output PDF file. This will not change the object level compatibility.
Many of the settings on this window are only intended for RIP compatibility. It may not reflect in the PDF file.
CMYK Output Intent: Sets the CMYK output intent profile of the output PDF file.
RGB Output Intent: Sets the RGB output intent profile of the output PDF file.
Include Output Intent to PDF: Embed both Intent profiles in the output PDF file to use with the output device.
Soft Proofing Profile: Allow you to view a matching page preview for the selected output device profile.
Add Media Size to Output PDF Name: Adds media size information on the output PDF file name.
Make All Marks in Gray: Output all printing marks in Grayscale mode.
Transparent Pages: Keep the transparency of the imported pages on PDF box.
Save this Settings as Default’ Apply all settings as application default. So the current document and every
new document you create thereafter will use all settings on this window.
Save Settings As: You may save the whole settings for future use.
Load Settings: Load the settings from previously saved settings file.
If one job is open while you editing preferences then the preferences are saved for that particular
job only otherwise it will save as application default. .
Layout Preferences
Units
Measurement Unit: Sets the measurement unit of the whole layout.
Page Move Nudge: Sets the amount to move while nudging the pages using the arrow keys.
Use control key + arrow (command for OSX) key combination to nudge the selected page.
Rule Coordinates: Sets the coordinates for the ruler info on the Signature Viewer window.
Marks / OMR
Color Bar
Color Control Bar Enable or disable and customize color control on the top edge of the printing paper.
Small Size Bar Create small color control bar. This option is applicable only to the default colour control bar.
Color Bar Style: Select the style of the control bar including custom color bars.
Setup.. Allow you to add your own special color bar PDF files to ‘Colour Bar Style’ pop-up menu. This
item will be available for all documents thereafter.
Swatches: Select the way of the default control bar handling spot colors.
Offset: Move colour bar position vertically.
Placement: Control the Size and fill method of the custom color bars. 6 placing options are available.
‘Left’ Places the colour bar aligned left.
‘Center’ Places the colour bar aligned center.
‘Right’ Places the colour bar aligned right.
‘Repeat To Fill’ Places the colour bar left and repeat till the right edge .
‘Stretch Width to Fit’ Places the colour bar stretched or reduced from left to right. Color bar height will be
the same as the original file.
‘Stretch Width-Height to Fit’ Places the colour bar stretched from left to right. Color bar height also change
to the value given in the ‘Height:’ field.
Height: Resize color bar height in percentage.
Grayscale Control Bar: Enable or disable the grayscale control strip. This strip will print on all separations
of the layout as a 10% incremented swatches from 0 to 100.
Layout Preferences
Backdrop
Backdrop PDF Enable or disable backdrop PDF behind the page layout. Selected PDF file will be placed
on the signatures behind all other page objects.
Setup.. Add or remove the backdrop PDF files in the backdrop selector pop-up menus.
For Front Side: Select the backdrop file for front signature.
For Back Side: Select the backdrop file for back signature if your layout is double sided.
Offset X:, Y: Allows to move backdrop position horizontally and vertically.
Slug Line
Slug Line Info Enable or disable signature details printed on the selected slug area.
Position: Select the position for slug line text. Available options are ‘Left of the Signature’, ‘ Above the
Signature’, ‘Below the Signature’.
Text: You may add custom text on the slug line.
Font: Select the font face of the slug line text.
Size: Select the font size of the slug line text.
Size: Select the font size of the slug line text.
Offset X:, Y: Allows to move backdrop position horizontally and vertically.
Do not Show Separation Names Enable or disable separation color names on the slug line text.
Do not Show Application Info Enable or disable application name on the slug line text.
Do not Show Company Name Enable or disable registered company name on the slug line text..
Company Name / Logo / Control Wedge Enable or disable personalised company name/logo or a
control wedge on the right slug area.
General
General
Output Naming Scheme: Control the naming scheme for the output PDF file. 2 options are available.
‘Layout Document Name’ Name output file with the layout file name.
‘First PDF Link File Name’ Name output file with the name of the first PDF link file in the link setup.
Enable Trim Box & Bleed Box on Output Enable or disable Trim & Bleed bounding boxes on the
output PDF file.
Disable Page Preview Cache Enable or disable to cache images for speeding up signature preview. You
may disable this option if you had experienced low memory errors.
Default Horizontal Folding Gap: Sets the default horizontal folding gaps between pages for the layout.
Default Vertical Folding Gap: Sets the default vertical gaps folding between pages for the layout.
Both horizontal & vertical gap settings will not affect the current folding gaps of the layout. This values are only
applicable when you click the ‘Save this Settings as Default’ button to set global layout preferences.
Refer your printing / finishing machine manual for barcode and OMR mark specifications.
Barcode & OMR Setup
Barcode Data
Total Sheets in a Book: One of the static data for the barcode. Use only when require.
Job reference ID: One of the static data for the barcode. Use only when require.
Special Text: One of the static data for the barcode. Use only when require.
Print Human Readable Barcode Text: Print the human readable texts along with barcode graphic.
Font: Font face for human readable barcode text
Field value: Number of characters needed as place holders to use with the data.
Data Type: Static or variable data type for the barcode. Available options are Total Sheets in a Book, Current Sheet
Number, Book Number, Job Reference ID, Special Text
Different sets of characters can be encoded in the barcode. The characters may be numeric only,
alpha-numeric, or may include control characters. Using incompatible characters in the barcode
data may result in an empty barcode.
Templates & Examples
OMR Mark
Mark Position: OMR Mark position on the paper. Available options are Left Edge - Centered, Right Edge - Centered,
Top Edge - Centered, Bottom Edge - Centered, Absolute Paper Center, Top Left Corner, Top Right Corner, Bottom Left
Corner, Bottom Right Corner.
Style: Style of the OMR mark.
Width: OMR Mark width.
Height: OMR Mark height
Horizontal Quiet Zone: A white area on left & right end of a OMR mark.
Vertical Quiet Zone: A white area on top and bottom end of a OMR mark.
X Offset: OMR Mark horizontal position shift.
Y Offset: OMR Mark Vertical position shift.
Print Mark On: Choose the printing order of sheets where OMR mark need to be printed. Available options are All
Sheets, First Sheet Only, Last Sheet Only, Skip First Sheet, Skip Last Sheet.
Printing Side: Choose the sides OMR need to be printed.
Workflow Manager
Workflow Manager
Automated workflow manager creates output PDF files automatically without any user intervention using any layout
file by a convenient hot-folder method.
Start Workflow Manager: Starts the workflow manager with all items in the queue.
Button: Creates a new workflow queue item. Check the ‘Workflow Queue Item Setup’ section for more info.
Button: Removes selected workflow queue item.
Button: Edit selected workflow queue item. Check the ‘Workflow Queue Item Setup’ section for more info.
Button: Setup workflow preferences. Check the ‘Workflow Preferences’ section for more info.
Workflow Queue List: Lists all queue layouts. You may enable or disable queue items using the check box.
Workflow Notification Area: Shows current queue status in regular intervals.
Lists all PDF files in the ‘Input Hot Folder’.
Lists all PDF files in the ‘Output Hot Folder’.
Lists all PDF files in the ‘Errors Folder’.
Lists all PDF files in the ‘Archive Folder’.
Please Note: Workflow manager may not check the page sizes of the PDF files. Make sure all PDF
files you dropped in the input folder have the same specification as the original PDF link file used
in the layout file.
Workflow Manager
Files / Pages
Queue Name: Name of the Queue, Independent from the layout file name.
Queue Short Name: Output PDF file start with this short name.
Layout File.. Select an error free layout file as source layout. Make sure the layout not showing any error
messages while opening, like file modified, missing etc.
Input Hot Folder.. Select a folder to watch. This is the folder you drop source PDF files to make the output
PDF file. It is not possible to make a single input folder for all of your workflow queues. Each input folder for
each queue item should be different than others.
Output Folder.. Select a folder where the output PDF files should save. You can select a single folder to save all of
your workflows.
Archive Folder.. Select the folder item to archive completed jobs.
Files / Pages
Keep Number Of Pages And PDF Link File Names: Workflow will search only for PDF files named in the
layout. And skip processing if could not find all PDF files used in the layout. Number of pages in the document
remain same. • Use this option for repeat jobs with miner changes or Jobs that uses selected pages from different
PDF files.
PDF Output Settings
Allow Any Number of PDF Pages: PDF pages with multiples of the minimum number (total master signature
pages) will be processed by the workflow. This option will also remove all link page related values including
selection of PDF page numbers, manual page movement, manual page scale, blank pages, mixing multiple PDF
files etc. All available PDF pages will be inserted by PDF file names in alphabetical order.
Take Page Size from Link PDF: This option will change the original page size to the page size of the available
PDF link file (first linked page). Sizes will be taken from trim/crop box sizes in the PDF. If no trim/crop box defined in
the PDF, the queue will stop with an error..
Do Not Use Multiple PDF Files As Links: This option will take only one PDF file as link. All PDF files are treated
as individual jobs. Otherwise all files are treated as links for a single job.
Options
Alert On Output: Workflow manager will alert if a output PDF created successfully.
‘Play Default Sound’ Play the default sound file.
‘Play Default Sound’ Play user selected sound file.
‘None’ No sound alert
Alert On Error: Workflow manager will alert if an error occurred while processing a queue item.
‘Play Default Sound’ Play the default sound file.
‘Play Default Sound’ Play user selected sound file.

Action On Error: Workflow manager will do selected actions when a job failed to output.
‘Disable Current Queue Item’ This option will disable the current queue item on error.
‘Stop Workflow’ This option will stop the workflow manager on error.
‘Move Files to Error Folder’ This option will move the problematic PDF files to the error folder.
‘Do Nothing’ This option will process again even the files showing errors.
Archive Completed Jobs: Move all files of a job to the associated ‘Archive Folder’ after completing a job.
Open Output PDF files: Open the output PDF files after completing the job.

Output Folder: Select the folder to save the output file.
Signatures From: Select the starting signatures number you want to output.
Signatures To: Select the ending signatures number you want to output.
Combine All Output PDF files By selecting this option Imposition Studio will combine the selected number of
signature PDF files into one PDF file.
Include Half Form Signature If the layout using ‘Half Form for Extra Pages’ and you select ‘Full Forms’ view in
the main preview window. Then use this option to include the half form along with full forms.
Include All Full Form Signatures If the layout using ‘Half Form for Extra Pages’ and you select ‘Half Form’ view in
the main preview window. Use this option to include all full forms along with the half form.
‘Output for Section Sewing’ This option is suitable for ‘Perfect binding’ or ‘Section Sewing’ with multi signature
per folding. For example, You want to make 16 page folding then binding the groups together to make a book.
This option only require if you need to print more than one form to make a folding unit.
‘Batch with PDF Source File Folder’ This option is suitable for who need to output same type of signatures with
different PDF files. Please take care to make sure all PDF file have the same size of the original PDF link. The master
layout should contain only one PDF link file. Multiple links are not allowed.
Output Options
Slug Line: Allow to fine tune the auto generated slug line text.
Open Output PDF Files Open completed output files using the default PDF reader application.
Naming Scheme: Control the naming scheme for the output PDF file. 2 options are available..
‘Layout Document Name’ Name output file with the layout file name.
‘First PDF Link File Name’ Name output file with the name of the first PDF link file in the link setup.
Disable Resource Optimization Try to Reduce output PDF file sizes by optimising repeat elements in the
document. Use only with low memory situations. Checking this option will increase the output PDF size.
In Digital/Film Output mode, If the Auto PDF Output Size is checked in Signature settings.
Then PDF Output will be trimmed to the selected margin amount regardless of the printing paper
selection.

New.. Create a new impositions layout. You will get 3 ways to choose.
Layout with Auto Settings.. Create new layout using Auto Layout Assistant
Layout with Manual Settings.. Create new layout using Manual Layout Wizard
2up Book Layout from PDF.. Create new 2 up layout from a PDF you selected.
Save Save the layout with given name.
Save Without Preview..Save the layout without preview. Resulted file will be small in size.
Save Signature as Image (72ppi).. Save current signature as image.
Save A Copy for Email.. Save the layout as small as possible. Suitable for attach in a email message.
Save A Copy to User Templates.. Save the layout as a template. This template will be available as user templates
in the ‘Templates & Examples’ window.
Create PDF Output.. Create Output PDF.
Create PDF for Digital Proofing.. If the layout is in CTP mode, this command creates PDF output with margin
without taking the plate size. Useful for proof check.
Collect Links & Archive.. Collect all linked PDF files and layout file in a folder.

Apply Auto Pagination..
All Page numbers are set to ‘0’ while you creating a layout Manually. You can use this command to apply auto page
numbers to the current manual layout if the layout is eligible for a standard folding, ups & paper turning methods.
Copy Page Numbers to
This command will copy the current selected page numbers to other pages in the signature according to the sub
menu you select. 3 options are available.
All Pages in the Signature, All Pages in the Selected Row and All Pages in the Selected Column. All are self explanatory.
Copy to Opposite Signature
Copy the settings of current signature to the opposite side signature as per the sub menu you select.
This will work only when you have two master signature in the layout. 3 options are available.
All Settings, Page Settings and Folding Gap Values. All are self explanatory.
Clear Page Transformations..
This command will remove all page transformations of the selected page.
Clear All Overridden Auto PDF Pages..
This command will remove overridden page info of the selected page and revert to original page number.
Show All Master Pages
This command will show all master pages previously made hidden.
Swap Signature Sides
This command will interchange front & back master signatures.
Swap Paper Turning Style Silently
Creates PDF files from an Image file or multiple image files from a folder.
This command will Swap the ‘Paper Turning Method’ without changing any of the signature or page properties. Work
& Turn this is useful when you made a manual layout not considering the Paper Turning Method’ or you opened a
old layout which was created without the paper turning option.
Set Page sizes From PDF Link
This command will change default page size to the size of first PDF link.
Update Current Page Preview
This command will recreate page preview of the selected page.

Converts ‘Spread Pages’ to single pages. In many occasions you may receive PDF files from client in Spread page
format instead of standard single page format. This function saves your valuable time by converting the spread PDF
to normal single page format. You need to make a single page layout with spread PDF size to enable this command.
Has Single Cover Pages: Select this check box if you have single pages at the beginning and end of the PDF document.
Reading Order: Select ‘Right to Left’ if the reading order of the pages is right to left as in Arabic or Hebrew languages.
Repair Mismatched Bounding Boxes..
Imposition Studio need center positioned PDF files for a link. If any PDF files have mismatched bounding boxes then
you need to repair with this utility.

Clear application preferences.
User Preferences
User settings including user created machines, paper sizes and automated workflows. All settings will reset to default
machines, paper sizes and workflows.
Registration Informations
Clear all license & activation informations. You may register again using the original license informations.
Change all into Factory Defaults
Reset Imposition Studio into the original state after installation.

How to do’s
How to create a new Layout using a template?
Imposition Studio comes with more than 100 predefined templates for standard impositions. Templates
are available from Templates Window. It is the default window while you open Imposition Studio.
Select & open the Template which almost matches your job. Change the page & paper sizes as per your requirement.
Open the Link PDF window and remove all the previous PDF links. Import your PDF file into The Links window. You
are Done. Now you can output the layout into a PDF.
How can I change the paper turning style without affecting the pagination?
Select ‘Swap paper turning Style Silently’ from command menu to change the page turning method without affecting
the pagination. You can also click the page turning icon in the bottom info panel of the signature viewer window to
do the same.

I Can’t edit the page numbers for the book
Imposition Studio only allows to edit master signatures. It is the first signature in the signature list and first and second
if the layout contain front & back signatures. All other pages create automatically according to the symbolic numbers
in the master signatures.
I Can’t find the template or auto layout with exact page numbers of my book
Auto layouts available with the maximum numbers in the master signatures. Number of signatures or pages in a job
depend on the number of pages you imported into the layout. For example, the 8up layout used to output a 16 page
book could output a 24 page book or 32 page book etc..
