Ministry for the Sick and Homebound
We are grateful to those who give of their time and
care to bring Holy Communion to our parishioners
who cannot make it to church due to sickness or in-
firmity. If you know of anyone who would like to re-
ceive communion in their home or while hospitalized
at West Lincoln Hospital, please contact the parish
office.
SVDP Society - What do we do? - We
help our needy neighbours that live within
the boundaries of St. Helen. All calls are
screened and a home visit is arranged
with two members attending.
How are we supported? - The poor box
in the vestibule of the church is our main means of
support. A cheque made out to St. Helen St. Vincent
de Paul can be dropped in the poor box or the Sun-
day collection. There are also St. Vincent de Paul
envelopes available for cash donations. Interested
in joining us, call Lorraine at 905-563-7043.
Canadian Tire Money
We continue to collect Canadian Tire
money to purchase raffle prizes for fund-
raising events. It can be brought to the
office or in the collection basket.
National Week for Life and the Family:
May 13-20
"Love: Encountering the Other"
Each year the Church in Canada sets aside one
week to celebrate Life and the Family. This gives us
all an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the
family and to renew our commitment, as Christians,
to upholding the dignity of human life from concep-
tion to natural death, and at every stage in between.

If you listened care-
fully to the words of to-
day’s gospel, you
heard Jesus say:
“These signs will ac-
company those who
believe: by using my
name they will cast out
demons; they will
speak in new tongues;
they will pick up
snakes in their hands.”
Some religious groups take this literally.
Jesus left his disciples on that hilltop near Bethany
with the assurance that he would give them the pow-
er they needed to fulfill their mission. Scripture tells
us that the disciples “went out and proclaimed the
good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with
them and confirmed the message by the signs that
accompanied it.” Whatever risks we face or prob-
lems we have to handle as disciples, Jesus promis-

YOUth Blasters upcoming gatherings will be at the

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention for the
Month of May
That the lay faithful may fulfil their specific mission,
by responding with creativity to the challenges that
face the world today. (Apostleship of Prayer)
New Feast Day
Pope Francis has declared that, annually, the Mon-
day immediately after Pentecost be known and cele-
brated as Mary, Mother of the Church. This year, in
Canada, it happens also to be Victoria Day.
This memorial, which links the humility and mater-
nity of Mary to the birth of the Church at Pentecost,
further reminds us of the call to self-sacrificial love,
the call to become missionary disciples, and the call
to holiness. The Christian life, after all, is made pos-
sible by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, whom St.
John Paul II called the "personal expression" of eter-
nal, self-giving love (Dominum et Vivificantem, 10).
Mother’s Day Prayer
We thank you, Lord, for our mothers.
We remember today their loving care,
and their ceaseless love for us.
May we show them by our gifts, our words, and our
actions that we love them and care about them too.
Father, we thank you for the family of the Church;
we thank you for those who are true mothers within
our Christian family.
May they know your blessing and strength as they
care for others. Amen

Bicycles for Migrant Workers
Do you have bicycles just sitting in your
garage, waiting to be put to good use?
Even if they need repairs, Deacon Fa-
bio has a contact who will fix them. If
you have a bicycle to donate for the migrant work-
ers, please email or call the parish office and leave
your name and number. Arrangements for drop off
will be made.
