Study Guide for Chapter 1-3 Test

Welcome to AP World History!

AP World History is a very fast paced course that requires you to do a lot of
reading outside of the classroom in order to be prepared for the College Board
exam in May. It is highly recommended that you read the first three chapters over
the summer, which will give you some extra time to study and become familiar
with reading a college level textbook. You will be having your first test soon after
you return to school in August.

Tips on how to read the Earth and Its Peoples Advanced Placement edition
3 World History textbook by Bulliet
1) Before you begin reading the chapter… Read the chapter introduction and
then read the conclusion.
2)Use the study guide questions below to assist you in focusing on the important
concepts.
3)Keep a dictionary nearby and define unknown words. Since this is a college
level text defining new vocabulary will help you prepare not only for the AP World
College Board exam but also help improve your score on the verbal section of
the PSAT and SAT.
4)While it is not necessary for you to memorize exact dates it is important to be
able to identify the approximate dates of “marker events.”
5) Very Important!!!!!!! You are responsible for knowing the significance of the
key terms listed at the end of each chapter. I recommend that you make flash
cards for each word or use the online flashcard resource posted on my website.
Do not lose the cards. Your College Board exam covers all periodizations (8000
BCE – Present). You will want to review
these cards every night as part of your study plan.
6) You can also go to my class notes link to download an outline of each chapter.

points for your effort. Don’t just memorize
the glossary definitions of the key terms.
You need to know the significance of each

write a paragraph about each term
explaining the “who, what, why, where, and
when “concepts of the terms.
