Standard #8: Instructional Strategies

The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to
develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply
knowledge in meaningful ways.

For this Standard I picked three artifacts that I think fit this Standard. They are

Application of Instructional Strategies, Differentiating instruction strategy, and Classroom

Strategies. A future goal is to learn more teaching strategies and how to use them. I will do this

by researching teaching strategies and growing my database of strategies.

Application of Instructional Strategies

This artifact is an assignment where I read a classroom scenario and then revamp the

teachers lesson using the cooperative learning model and then pick two other instructional

strategies. The two instructional strategies I picked were, graphic organizer/ KWL chart, and in-

class games. This assignment was from Ivytech Community Colleges EDUC 250 Educational

Psychology class I took in the spring of 2018. I picked this artifact for this standard because it

shows I know how to uses a variety of instructional strategies.

Differentiating instruction strategy

This artifact is a list of two strategies (story/text mapping and outlining) and how I would

use them to help a child with ADHD. I made it for Ivy Tech Community Colleges EDUC 230

The Exceptional Child I took in the spring of 2018. I picked this artifact for this standard because

it shows I know how to uses a variety of instructional strategies.

Classroom Strategies

This artifact is a list of 10 classroom strategies. Using Feedback to Improve Learning and

Behavior, Addressing Student’s stereotypes and prejudices, Enhancing Self-Efficacy and Self-

Worth, Forming Productive Expectations and Attributions, Showing and Promoting Caring,

Easing the Transition to Middle and Secondary School, Working with Students Who Have
Exceptional Abilities and Talents, Working with Students Who Have Significant Delays in

Cognitive Development, Conducting Effective Discovery and Inquiry Learning Activities, and

Promoting Productive Dispositions. I made this assignment in Ivy Tech Community Colleges

EDUC 250 Educational Psychology class I took in the spring of 2018. I picked this artifact for

this standard because it shows I know a variety of instructional strategies.
