and Changing the Social World. Retrieved from http://open.lib.umn.edu/sociology/chapter/16-4-

In this source it talks about the different ways in which there is gender inequality and gender roles and
even talks about this studying subject as using elementary school students. This website has been
credited with a lot of helpful insight to my findings. This research also talks about the difference in
American schools to also schools in Europe, like Denmark. It shows how different the cultures are and
how they are also similar in ways. In another section of this article it talks about if students based on
gender are held to a different standpoint in school and whether or not the teachers see them as equals.
I think this source is credible for the lengthy list of resources sited at the end of the section and all the
different theories contributes to the articles. Also because it wasn’t just published by a blogger, but
instead by a University who conducted research into the subject.

In this source it goes back in time during the entry and talks about how during the early 1900s there was
all the different events going on to try and promote women voting, holding office, and getting equal pay. I
like this source because it gives you a lot of information and statics that are diving the men and women in
Europe. I also can’t speak for someone else, but from the impression I was under, I thought the equal pay
and equality issue was primarily based around America, being that’s where I live. So to be honest I didn’t
know it was a global issue, which sounds dumb of me I know but yea.
I thought this source would be credible because most of the important information provided about dates
and statistics are pretty accurate for today’s time. It also was published just three years ago so even the
time it was public it seems credible enough, if that makes sense. Basically I found it easy to read, credible
to the date and it was different in terms it covered the subject in on a different continent.

This source was about basically what it says it talks about and that is defining the question, “why are men
and women treated differently?” While this is a lengthy video and goes into depth fairly quickly it does
make a lot of sense. She primarily focused on the woman who started gender as an academic field of
study, this is Harriet Martineau. Crash course goes into depth about how this woman traveled to small
towns and Washington D.C sitting in on Congress meetings and even talking to President Madison. She
wrote two books about her discoverings, traveling and being surrounded by different cultures. Her work
was even seen by Queen Victoria. This video also covered the three waves of feminism and I think this
could be added into my final to show the impact and growth of the gender equality movement over time.
I find this source to be credible because in the description it has sources listed that they used in the video
and they were actually from the books Harriet wrote. I think this is one of my stronger sources because it
doesn’t just go on the surface of the subject but it describes how it happened and what it’s done today.

This resource is another video explaining what the different gender roles are and how every culture has
them. The main question or topic that is discussed is “why does gender matter?”. Gender is not the same
in all cultures as we can probably guess because of the wide variety there is with gender. While some
societies see gender as masculinity and femininity as mutual opposites , and some see gender as being
fluid or don’t see it as a classification. Either way the topic again is why, if some know or identify as one
or two or not as anything (gender wise), why does it exist or matter. I think this source is credible because
it uses credible references and sociological theories to provide the information. Also because the fact
that it’s been published recently.

http://www.eastasiaforum.org/2016/06/20/gender-and-sexuality-in-asia-today/
This source is a lot like the one that compares the gender roles in Europe, but this one targets them in
Asia. Again, it’s interesting to get all perspectives around the world for these sources. This sources talks
about how the rapid changes and growth are affected in a very cultural society in East Asia. It also talks
about how it isn’t just male and female roles that are now being redefined, but how that another new and
interesting point that had been brought up is that how religious still exert a lot of influence, women have
been resisting the debate to put their own lives and wants ahead of the norms. The search for
employment or a new life has also driven women to migrate, legally or illegally to show that bringing
about change in gender roles is vital. Like the European source, there is a broader look into the gender
roles and equality across the globe. This source I find to be credible because of the date, it’s only two
years old making the statistic most likely still accurate. Also because it was published by a school rather
than a blogger.

Retrieved March 01, 2018, from https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/20/health/geas-gender-

This source really helped me realize how big of a topic this actually is, and globally for that. Also showing
the impact on school, family and friends have on our opinions of ourselves and how they change with
age. I think this will help me because I can go from the young part of life until adulthood when ideas of
ourselves start to change. While yes there are gender roles and they aren’t limited to male or female
because there are societies that believe that they don’t exist as a particular importance or that you have
to identify as one or the other. Instead we’re missing the middle of our societies and the growing gender
change. From being women and becoming a man, or vise versa. We don’t, or at least, there isn’t a lot of
research into it, as to how the transgender identifies within a specific role. I think this source was
interesting to use. I find it credible because it was published by CNN which is a television news broadcast
show. I also find that the date is only a year old and I find the facts are credible and the reports are top
notch. This source also includes a short video which I think also helps understand a little bit more about
the transgender topic.

This citation again is like the other ones that talk about gender roles within in different countries, but this
one targets African Gender roles. It talks about how this third world country is struggling. Something that
is a growing concern is the gender violence against women. Men are allowed to beat their wives
whenever they please and this is not okay. What is this suppose to teach children? That it’s okay to make
fun of or beat women down? I’d like to bring this topic up in my writings because this could be one source
of where the inequality surfaces from. Belittling women, addiction to alcohol and HIV/AIDS are common
things seen in this country and the women and children living here need help. I think this is a credible
source because this source came directly from African women living these lives. This source is also
pretty old but I mean I don’t think a lot or any changes have been done.

http://open.lib.umn.edu/sociology/chapter/15-1-the-family-in-cross-cultural-and-historical-

This source explains the different families and how they work. They explain what polygamy is and how
the different roles people play within the relationship. This particular relationship usually consists of one
man and multiple women and the roles between the women are split and also each one tends to their
children. They also talked about monogamy which is only one man and one woman in a relationship. In
this relationship, the different roles are split more equally than polygamy relationships. This is known as
egalitarian families. It also talks about nuclear families and how they impact society. This source
ultimately looks at the gender roles as like a group instead of an individual perspective. I think this source
is credible because of the publication date and how it’s only two years old. Also because this source was
provided by my teacher I think makes it credible because I don’t think he would recommend us false
information to read and help educate us. Another reason this source is credible is because it was
published by a University.

I think this source will help me because it talks about the different genders and how they react in society
and the past and present. It just kinda rubs on the surface how gender roles are a continuous issue and
how we must keep the idea of gender equality in our minds. Since the 1970s we have had more women
go into male dominant jobs like doctors, medicine, engineering, etc. Women can do anything men can do.
I think this source is credible because it is also from the University of Minnesota Libraries. It is also only
two years old.

Transgender health care coverage. (n.d.). Retrieved March 01, 2018, from
https://www.healthcare.gov/transgender-health-care/
This next link describes different healthcare plans for transgenders. I was curious to see if these would
benefit or hurt the ordinary people who wish to switch genders and then don't get proper medical
attention because of the matter that they're in essence "no longer the same". I think this will help my topic
strongly because it goes over what's offered for men and women and now the people who are
transgender. This source doesn’t necessarily talk about a “gender role” but it does have good information
to compare to someone who has health care coverage and what they get covered for and if someone
who’s transgender gets the same benefits. I think this source is credible because it’s directly from the
government health care page instead of from a source who got it from someone else on this if that
makes sense. It’s directly from the source of the government site.

This resource gave me a lot of good information about how kids view the unknown questions about being
transgender. They got to ask one on one questions and most of the information if not all was very clear
and gave me with a lot of knowledge about the touchy subject. I like how it gives you a better
understanding of the subject and could be like an open, easy way to talk about this subject. This project
was done by SheKnowsMedia. This is credible because this source was published by CNN and was
published within the last year.
