~A Game of Genetics~
Welcome to ‘Future Earth’, an era where humans have surpassed the limits
of technology to the point of no return. Scientists now are able to develop
lifeforms at the flick of their wrists. The Allelians are examples of that.
As a scientist, your job is design your own Allelian. But to make it more fun,
there’s a game involved. This means you can make an Allelian and
compete with it too! Awesome, right? Here’s how to play…
Prep:
1. Choose a jar of playdoh → used to make your Allelians
2. Choose a playing piece → used to move on the gameboard
3. Organize card stacks on the game board
How to Play:
1. Roll your die to see how many spaces you move. If you land on a
colored space, choose a question card. The colored spaces
represent different traits to get ( nose, mouth, eyes, ears, tail, hair,
arms, legs) . If you answer the question correctly, you earn the trait
shown on the gameboard.
2. If you land on a chance space, choose a chance card. These are the
types you can get:
a. Trade: can trade a specific trait with another player
b. Mutation: alters the phenotype of your allelian for that trait
c. Movement: you can move forward or back
d. Trait: you can gain a new trait or lose a trait
How to Win:
● To win the game you have to acquire all the traits listed to win. You
need two eyes, a nose, a mouth, two ears, two arms, two legs, and
hair. All parts should be working properly (ex. No colorblindness).
○ Exception: If you acquire a tail, you don’t need to earn all the
traits above. Basically, if you are...say...missing an arm but you
have a tail, you still win the game because the tail makes up for
the arm.
● Note: There is no ‘end’ spot on the board, but there is a starting
point. This is so you can go around the gameboard as many times as
needed to earn all your traits.
