Question 1: Mean

When a student is taught on how to find the mean of a set of data, they might find it

difficult to accept the final answer due to several reasons. The students might first of all not

understand how the teacher came up with the given set of data. The students may not fully

understand how these figures relate to the topic of study which is mainly a measure of central

tendency. The students are so fresh in this field and lack the experience to clearly understand the

experience of generating data to be used in a certain concept. The need some ample time to

familiarize with this area before they are able to fully grasp the concept.

Question 2: Probability

Probability is a statistical term used to quantify the possibility of a certain event

occurring. Probability values will always range from 0-1. When the probability value is 0, it

means that the event has no possibility of occurring and will therefore not occur at all. When the

probability of an event occurring equals to 1, it implies that this event has the highest possibility

of occurring in other words the event must occur. Probability occurs in two main forms that is

the objective form and the subjective form. The objective form highly depends on the number of

times an event occurs and the subjective form depends on estimation due to a certain belief on

occurrence of a particular event.

Question 3: Coin Flip and Dice Roll Games

Coin flipping uses an unbiased coin which has a head and a tail. Both the head and the

tail have equal chances of showing up when flipped. When determining probability, the coin is

thrown in the air and rotates severally before landing the coin is thrown several times then

probability value is determined by the number of heads that show up in all tosses. Dice roll game
is used to determine the probability value by rolling the dice and noting down the number of

times each side shows up per the total number of tosses. Coin flipping is a more complex way of

determining probability compared to rolling the dice.

Question 4: Different Graphs about the Same Data

Different graphs can be used to represent the same data so as to encourage children to

progress in understanding graphs. Graphs are normally simple to plot and give an appealing

visual presentation of the data. Different graphs can be used to obtain a similar conclusion on a

given dataset but there is usually that type of graph that is most suitable for that dataset. For

example both the bar chart and the line graph can be used in representing information about how

a given quantity increased or decreased over time. The line graph in this case is the best since it

shows clearly the trend of increase and decrease of the quantity.

Question 5: Importance of Graphs

Graphs are normally used to represent a given set of data. They are preferred by users

since they give a visual illustration of the relationship between the data set in the graph. The

main purpose of a graph is to present complicated dataset in graphical form for easier

understanding and saving the user long explanations. The graph is used to analyze the

relationship between various variables of a dataset and show their trends. To understand and

interpret a graph an individual must be able to know all parts of the graph such as the title, scale,

data fields, x-axis and y-axis.

Question 6: Geometric Probability

Geometric probability is a statistical tool that measures the number of outcomes

geometrically. The outcomes may be from the measurement of length, width, volume or area.

Geometric probability is always used to solve problems with continuous variables which are

usually complex to solve. An example of this problem is a problem involving the arrival time of

a vehicle. Geometric probability transforms such kind of probability problems into geometry

problem and simplifies the solution process. Geometric probabilities are usually quantities that

are non-negative. A complex probability problem is converted to a geometric problem according

to the nature of the problem and the nature of the solution.
