Lineup Procedure

iDirect Service
Nittedal Teleport, NORWAY
Revision 1.3, 5 Jun 2013

This document describes the actions and steps to be followed by an installer when
performing an x-pol/1dB compression test for iDirect Services that is operated by Telenor
Satellite Broadcasting.

PREPARATIONS BEFORE LINE-UP

Before contacting the Nittedal Teleport Helpdesk, the installer should verify the following:

 iDirect modem is loaded with the appropriate Evolution/Infiniti software and

corresponding option file.
 Antenna is pointed toward correct satellite, with correct polarization
 Modem Rx cable is connected and the modem locked to the outbound carrier
 Modem’s green Rx LED lit on the front.

INITIATING A LINE-UP

1. Call the Nittedal Service Desk at +47 05002 (alternatively call +47 67073470) and
state that you want to do a lineup for the Telenor Nittedal iDirect platform, as well
as which organization/company you represent.
2. Agree time for lineup with the Nittedal Service Desk (this may be immediate or an
agreed time in the future).
3. Make sure antenna is pointed towards correct satellite, and specify for helpdesk
which satellite you are pointed towards.
4. Ask for permission to bring up a clean un-modulated carrier (CW). The CW
frequency will be provided during the call.
5. Activate transmission of CW carrier and await further instruction from Nittedal
Service Desk.

NOTE

If the carrier is seen by the Nittedal Service Desk the installer will be asked to adjust
transmit power level and possibly the alignment of the antenna. If the carrier is NOT seen
by the Nittedal Service Desk the installer MUST cease transmission, perform a local check
of the installation and schedule a new lineup. Remainder of this procedure will only be
executed if carrier was seen by the Nittedal Service Desk.

Lineup Procedure
iDirect Service
Nittedal Teleport, NORWAY
Revision 1.3, 5 Jun 2013

1. Adjust transmit power as directed by the Nittedal Service Desk. This should be done
using the iSite configuration interface or console connection.
2. The Nittedal Service Desk will inform the installer whether adjustments to LNB
polarization are required.
3. Adjust polarization until optimal isolation has been reached. Isolation should be
>30dB.
4. Continue with 1dB compression test.

NOTE

An absolute minimum isolation of 27dB is required to continue with line-up. If isolation is

worse than this, the installer MUST cease transmission, perform a local check of the
installation and schedule a new lineup. Remainder of this procedure will only be executed if
appropriate isolation was seen by the Nittedal Service Desk.

1dB COMPRESSION TEST

5. Adjust transmit power as directed by the Nittedal Service Desk. This should be done
using the iSite configuration interface or console connection. The Nittedal Service
Desk will inform the installer when the 1dB compression point has been reached.
6. Record x-pol isolation and 1dB compression point.
7. Cease transmission of CW carrier and verify that the carrier has dropped with the
Nittedal Service Desk
8. Reset the iDirect modem after running a CW.
