Every Year rivers carry amounts of waste into the sea. It also receives large quantities of
chemicals from factories, smoke and gases from cars and even nuclear radioactive materials in some
deep areas. Ecologists are now wondering whether the ocean can be used as a waste basket for a long
time. Throwing rubbish into the sea will harm people’s health and destroy marine life and the beauty
of coasts. Countries with miles of coastline must protect water from pollution. Nuclear dust has
already killed a lot of fish and marine life, and sooner or later humans will be poisoned too. Countries
must agree to safeguard nature.
