Advanced Writing

Weekly Poem

Each week, one of you will bring in a poem to share with the class and present. You will also hand in a written analysis of
your poem, taking care to use poetic terms we’ve discussed. I have modeled this for you as this unit has progressed, and
you should be capable of doing this on your own now. Here are the requirements:

1. Bring in 9 copies of a poem of your choosing (for each classmate, yourself, and the teacher)
2. Read the poem aloud to the class
3. Explain why you chose this poem to share and what you believe the poem is about
4. Identify favorite lines of the poem as well as any literary devices you like. Discuss the poem using poetic terms.
5. A completed write-up analyzing the poem for form and content (form follows function!)

Here’s how you will be graded:
