using “LIKE” or “AS”
Ex: “As American as apply pie”
“‘It is as if he were not a person but only a
shadow.’ This is what he was: the shadow of
someone whom no one had ever known”
(204).
Metaphor and Simile analysis group activity
In groups, complete the analysis worksheet. Each group member should take
on a role (facilitator, text-finder, scribe, spokesperson, language guru, or devil’s
advocate)

Underline the metaphor or simile in each quote from Chapter Four of Love in the
Time of Cholera below. Respond to the questions about each metaphor or simile:
