How important is English for you to succeed in the diplomatic service

• In the first phase (which is qualifying), English represents 12.3% of the total
score. In 2017 you had to get at least 44.25 (that is 60%) to pass the TPS.

• In the second phase (also qualifying), you have to score at least 50 points
out of 100 so that you continue in the process.

• Second and third phases together are worth 800 points. So, in the final
counting, English represents 12,5%. THAT’S A LOT! In 2016, you had to get
at least 77.4% out of 800 points to pass the exam.

How will our course help you succeed?

• My goal is to help you acquire the knowledge and the skills needed to pass
the examination. I am here not to teach you English, but to help you pass
the CACD test by using the English language skilfully.

• Our focus will be on the TPS, since this is where the majority of candidates
get stuck.

Let’s start from the basics!

WARNING: When you are using English while relaxing, don’t stop every second
to search for words you don’t know the meaning. Do it when it’s study time.

On our next class...

• We’ll start “reverse engineering” TPS. Let’s understand what kind of texts
the examiners have been using and what are the types of questions they
usully ask.

• I recommed that, before you watch our next video class, try to read Chapter
1 of Sara Walker’s Handbook.
