Why is this topic important?
● Wildlife
● Preserving the ecosystem
GLOBAL CONNECTIONS
● Globally, agriculture is the biggest contributor to water pollution due to
eutrophication
● Every day, 2 million tons of sewage and industrial and agricultural waste
are discharged into the world’s water (UN WWAP 2003)
● Every year, more people die from unsafe water than from all forms of
violence including war (International)
● Almost half of Europe’s rivers and lakes are threatened by pollution
 LOCAL IMPLICATIONS
● Texas waterways are the fourth most polluted in
the nation (Environment Texas)
● The biggest polluter is animal waste and bacteria
(Brian Zabcik)
○ Leads to diseases such as: Typhoid, Cholera,
Paratyphoid Fever, Dysentery, Jaundice Amoebiasis
and Malaria.
● It’s illegal to swim in Town Lake because there is
a lot of debris from construction and runoff from
floods.
