Reflection

After the completion of my Curriculum, Design and Development course, I have

gained an immense amount of knowledge and information which I have used and

found valuable in my English classroom. These learning opportunities have led me to

become a better teacher both inside and outside of the classroom. Throughout this

fourteen weeks course, I have had a few assignments and one major project that had

given me a clear view of Curriculum, Design and Development. A curriculum is

considered the “heart” of the our learning department which means that schools or

universities cannot exist without a curriculum. Richards (2001, p. 2) defines

‘curriculum design’ as the process of deciding on what students learn in a program in

terms of “knowledge, skills, and values” as well as how this learning should take

place in terms of planning, measuring and evaluating. First of all, I have identified

that curriculum planning is divided into many levels eaxmple in schools,

whole-school curriculum, plan the sequence of learning across all year levels, plan

each year level, term and unit after this course. My lecturer, Dr Aspalila Bt Shapii had

taught us about the curriculum process which is to educate learners, develop skills and

knowledge so that we will be able to contribute within society. She define that

curriculum is a document which has details about goals or objectives, content,

teaching techniques, evaluation and assessment and it is the key values that represent

education and teaching process.

She assigned us to do a project and design an interesting task and present it at the

end of the course. During the designing process, I thought the performance task would

be the most difficult but it turned out to be the easiest. It was a chance to create this
ideal project that used fun games based activity and able the students to take part

actively. Our group comprised with 4 members and it turn out to be a great team.

Sometimes, it was a bit difficult with time management and communication, but we

managed to pull it off just nicely. For this task, I can successful state that we

accomplished more on designing a program and manage to come out with a great idea.

This time we co-operated together in the aspects of writing, including giving and

responding to productive feedback and working in teams and collabrated prefectly.

We successfully used KAHOOT in our project to accomplish our major goal which is

social expression and to guide the students to speak using simple social expressions

that suits them best and which will help them during the exam. Kahoot is a tool

using technology to administer quizzes, discussions, social expresions or surveys. It is

a game based classroom response system played by the whole class in real time. This

project is done after school hours. Now, after this course I know exactly how to assess

my students before I teach a unit. I have found that students perform better and are

more engaged when they are interested in the lesson.

Therefore, in conclusion, I believe that curriculums make the vital contribution to

the student's future, wellbeing, prosperity, and social society skills. The curriculum is

very important towards developing capabilities, as well as achieving outcome goals in

gaining specific knowledge. The curriculum must go beyond not just in schooling

foundation of education but in the workplace, community and recreational

surroundings. The curriculum is one way to ground the concept of life-long learning

for a student. Through good teaching, supporting students, it will assist to develop

their knowledge and understanding.
