THERAPIST OBJECTIVES FOR PATIENTS

John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M.

1. Mobilize diaphragms and other extra-dural soft tissue restrictions.

2. Locate and discharge all energy cysts and other sources of the arcing phenomenon.

3. Release all skeletal osseous restrictions, with special focus on skull, teeth, pelvis,
vertebrae and thoracic cage.

4. Release and balance CranioSacral membrane system.

5. Defacilitate all facilitated segments.

6. Discover and treat any remaining contributors to segmental facilitation.


7. Release and balance masticatory system paying special attention to the hyoid and its related muscles.

8. Deal with obstructions and destructive energies and emotions by conversion to positivities when
possible, otherwise by discharge.

9. Identify and deal with the generators of destructive energies and emotions.

10. Open any obstructed acupuncture meridians.

11. Treat chakras.

12. Align body vectors.

13. Use SER techniques as they seem indicated during any of the above work (significance detector,
imaging and dialogue).

14. Clean and wax the aura.


OBJECTIVES AS A THERAPIST
1. Learn to listen quietly and patiently.
2. Blend with patient.
3. Identify the target issue/tissue for this session.
4. Identify external input from assistants and from yourself.
5. Learn to differentiate truth from distraction.
6. Identify defense and resistance activity.
7. Learn to extract and understand reason for and purposes of defenses and resistances.
8. Identify parts of patient that desire resolution.
9. Find out what the desires to resolve would require to be happy.
10. Negotiate between the desire to heal and resolve and the defenses and resistances.
11. Know when to lighten up just enough to preserve rapport.
12. Try to convert resistance energy to problem solving energy by redirection.
13. Attempt to convert destructive energies and emotions to constructive ones.
14. Discharge destructive emotions/energies if not possible to convert to constructive energies.
15. Find and deal with destructive emotion/energy generators.

16. Discover why the presented issues came to the surface at this time.

17. Know when session is complete.

18. Leave your baggage at the door.

19. Rid yourself of your own baggage as it is recognized and whenever possible.

OBJECTIVES AS AN ASSISTANT

1. Become an extra pair of hands for the therapist.

2. Report your perceptions and thoughts to the therapist.

3. Perform only as instructed by the therapist, do not initiate therapeutic activity without therapist's
approval or suggestion.

4. Learn to subordinate your own ego.

5. Blend with patient as extension of the therapist.

6. Blend with therapist as part of team effort.
