SECTION 01380
CONSTRUCTION PHOTOGRAPHS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION:
A. Provide construction photographs pertinent to the Contract work during the Contract
period as specified and as directed by the CM/CS.
(NTS: Use the next subsection to list other specification sections that have specific
photographic requirements. Most projects will not require the next subsection.)
(NTS: Select and list specification sections for inserting into this subsection based on the
following:
1. Specification sections that contain products and construction that the reader might
expect to find in this section BUT are specified elsewhere.
2. Specification sections referenced in the body of this section.)
(NTS: Use the next subsection if there are specific Reference Standards for photographic
work, materials, prints or equipment to be in compliance with. Next subsection not
required for most projects.)

1.04 SUBMITTALS:
A. Proposed Photographer:
B. Two copies of each print, each identified and mounted as specified to be submitted
monthly during construction period.
(NTS: Edit the items of this sentence to establish the general quality criteria for the
project, i.e. photographers experience, quality of photographs, material and equipment.
Keep in mind the photographer may be required to attest to photographic experience,
work, material, equipment and photographs. Construction photographs are frequently
used in resolving questions and problems that may arise later.)
A. Photographer proposed to be approved by CM/CS.
D. Photographer to be available on call on one day notice when requested by CM/CS and be
prepared to respond on shorter notice in unusual or unexpected conditions.
E. Dates for photography at site to be coordinated with CM/CS and CM/CS to be present
during photographic periods at site unless approved otherwise by CM/CS.
1. The records to be in sufficient detail to support any attestation that may be required
of photographer.
2. Photographer to retain such records for a period not less than two years from the
final acceptance of entire work under this Contract.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
(NTS: Edit following items as appropriate for project. If specific resolution is required,
pleas add.
A. Remain the property of the photographer; two copies of all photo files in CD shall be
submitted to the CM/CS.
2.02 PRINTS:
(NTS: Edit next item as appropriate for type of prints for project. In general color prints
are preferred. Color prints generally accentuate variations better than black and white
prints, particularly with concrete work.)
A. Type: Color prints.
(NTS: In next item edit the size of print as appropriate for the project. Generally 8-in. x
10-in. prints are required for projects involving plant construction and structures. For
pipeline, roadway construction, etc. 4x5 prints are generally acceptable.)
C. Size: 8-in. x 10-in. (200 mm x 250 mm) plus suitable margin for identification.
(NTS: In the next item edit paper weight [single or double] as appropriate for project. For
most projects use single weight.)
D. Paper weight: Singe weight.
(NTS: Edit the number of copies in next item as appropriate for project, but not less than
two.)
E. Number of prints: Two of each photograph.
(NTS: Use the next two lettered items for prints mounted in clear plastic envelopes that
permits both front and back to be visible through envelope.)
B. Front of Print:

1. Detailed description of view including point from which exposure made, compass
direction of view, vertical declination of view (horizontal, looking up, looking
down etc.) identification of main features in view and any other data and
information pertinent to the purpose and identification of the exposure
photographer feels necessary to include.
(NTS: If prints are mounted on muslin or in some other manner back of print not
available for identification use the following lettered item in place of the two preceding
lettered items.)
D. If the back of print is not available for identification, use the following paragraphs D and
E in place of two preceding paragraphs.
1. Top margin:

5. To have 1-in. (25 mm) hinged binding edge suitable for approved binder specified
under subsection PRINT FILING BINDER.
(NTS: Use the next item in lieu of the item above if prints are to be mounted on muslin or
some other material. Edit as appropriate. Mounting prints in this manner precludes use of
the back of the print to record data and information. Information must be recorded on the
front of the print. Be sure to edit the subsection PRINT IDENTIFICATION as
appropriate.)
B. Mount each print on muslin with 1-in. (25 mm) hinged binding edge compatible with
binder specified under subsection PRINT FILING BINDER.
(NTS: Normally the minimum number of copies of prints is two, thus two sets of print
filing binders should be required. If more than two sets are to be in binders edit following
items as appropriate.)
A. Furnish CM/CS suitable approved binders for filing specified under subsection PRINT
MOUNTING.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
B. Photographer to furnish additional prints beyond the number specified when request by
CM/CS at commercial rates applicable at time of purchase.
C. All views to contain a relative dimension reference that is easily recognizable by the
average person. In views where dimensions are critical use a recognizable measuring
devices such as folding ruler, measuring tape in a manner the markings are clear and
sharp in the photograph and the device located in close relationship with subject of
photograph.
(NTS: Use the next subsection for photography of sites involving plant construction,
structures etc. Edit as appropriate for project requirements.)
B. Views:
(NTS: Use the next subsection for route type work such as pipe lines, access roads, streets,
survey traverses etc. Edit as appropriate for project requirements.)
3.03 ROUTE PHOTOGRAPHY REQUIRED:
B. In the portions of the route where clearing is required make an additional set of progress
photographs in similar manner specified for the initial route photography after all clearing
work completed and before any other work commences in the cleared portion of the
route.
(NTS: In the next item edit the frequency as appropriate for the requirements of the
project.)
C. During Construction:
1. At least once per week to illustrate state of project, condition of construction and
progress in the previous week. Work photographed in previous sessions only
photographed again sufficiently to provide progressive continuity of work unless
otherwise directed by CM/CS.
