ANNIE
Hi guys, its Annie. So today, I
am going to be talking about
internet friends. I was always
told as a child not to talk to
strangers on the internet
because of ‘stranger danger’
and all that jazz. But as you
get older, I guess you become
more aware of weird people
online, and I’ve never
experienced any trouble.
Shots of the YouTube clip playing on a laptop.
I have an internet friend of my
own, called Hannah. We’ve been
friends for nearly a year now.
When I first started out on
YouTube, she would watch and
comment on all my videos, and
eventually we began talking.
Shots of Annie texting Hannah.
We found that we’ve got so much
in common and we literally talk
all the time and we‘re always
texting each other.
Unfortunately she lives about
200 miles away from me, so we’ve
not met in person yet. But
tomorrow, she’s coming down on
the train and we’re finally
going to meet! I am so excited.
Shot of the YouTube video playing on the laptop.
BRIEF 2018
I was wondering if any of you
guys had an internet friend.
Leave a comment below telling me
about how you found them, and if
you’ve met. I’d love to hear
other people’s stories!
Don’t forget to like and
subscribe. See you next week!!
Byeeeeee!
A shot of Hannah watching the
video. She is smiling. She shuts
the laptop screen down and gets
her phone.
She types a message to Annie
saying ‘Can’t wait to meet you
tomorrow! (: x’

HANNAH
Okay cool. I’ll go up and order.
Annie sits down at the table playing on her phone waiting for
Hannah to come back.
Hannah walks through the door carrying two glasses of milk.
She places the glasses onto the table.
There you go.
Annie looks at the glasses with a confused face.
ANNIE
Oh, thank you. Um, I thought I
asked for sparkling water?
HANNAH
I thought you would prefer milk
Hannah takes a sip of her milk.

ANNIE
So what do you want to do this
week? I thought we could maybe
go to the cinema or something?
I’ve heard there’s a good film
out called ‘truth or dare’
Hannah stares into space, not hearing what Annie is saying
Hannah?
HANNAH
What?
ANNIE
I said, what do you want to do
this week? Would you like to go
to the cinema?
HANNAH
Um Yeah, maybe. To see what?
ANNIE
I was thinking, a film called
‘truth or dare’… it’s like a
horror.
BRIEF 2018
HANNAH
Oh yes, I like horrors.
ANNIE
Awesome we’ll do that then.

Annie’s phone starts to ring

HANNAH
Who’s that? Who’s calling you?
ANNIE
I don’t know. Hold on, I’ll
answer it.
Annie picks up the phone and holds it to her ear. Hannah
watches closely, looking angry and jealous.

Hello? Who is this?

Chloe! Oh my God no way!

I’m great thank you, how are
you?
Aw good!
Tonight? Um, I don’t think I’m
doing anything no.

Hannah rolls her eyes and looks even angrier.

Oh really that sounds good. What

time?
Yes that’s great. I’ll be there.
See you later, bye!
HANNAH
Who was that?
BRIEF 2018
ANNIE
Oh that was my friend Chloe.
HANNAH
Chloe? I’ve never heard of her.
ANNIE
Yeah, we were best friends at
Primary school. She’s having a
party for her eighteenth later
and asked if I wanted to go.
HANNAH
Oh right. What am I going to do?
Wait at your house?
ANNIE
Don’t be silly, you’re coming
with me
HANNAH
What?!
ANNIE
Come on, it’ll be fun!
HANNAH
I won’t know anyone though!
ANNIE
I’ll be there, and Chloe is so
nice, you’ll love her.
HANNAH
Alright, fine. I’ll come. Don’t
leave me by myself though.
ANNIE
I won’t, stop worrying. We
should go back home now and get
ready as we have to leave by 7.
HANNAH
Okay
BRIEF 2018
Hannah gets up and her bag is undone. Some bits of paper fall
on the floor.
ANNIE
Hannah, you’ve dropped some
stuff.
Annie picks up the papers off the floor. She spots a
few photos of herself.

Why are there pictures of me in

your bag?
Hannah turns around in a panic
HANNAH
Don’t touch those
Hannah snatches the pictures off Annie and stuffs them in her
bag.
ANNIE
Oh, um, sorry…
HANNAH
(Snaps) I thought we needed to
go?!
ANNIE
Yeah, lets go…

ANNIE
(Annie chuckles) Yeah it is. I
wonder where Chloe is?
Chloe is talking to a group of people the other side of the
room. She spots Annie, runs over to her and hugs her.
CHLOE
(Chloe squeals in excitement)
ANNIIEEE! How are you?
ANNIE
I’m great how are you?
CHLOE
Amazing! Aw I’ve missed you so
much!
ANNIE
Ah so have I!
CHLOE
So, who’s your friend?
ANNIE
Oh, sorry. This is my friend
Hannah. We met online.
CHLOE
That is so cool! Hey Hannah
Chloe goes to hug Hannah, but Hannah steps back and shakes
hands with her instead.
HANNAH
Hello Chloe
CHLOE
(Confused tone of voice) Right.
Well I’d best make sure nobody’s
puking or anything. Go grab
yourselves some drinks and have
fun. I’ll come and find you in a
bit. Nice to meet you Hannah!
BRIEF 2018
ANNIE
(Laughs) Sure, no worries. See you
later.
Chloe runs off, leaving Hannah and Annie standing alone
together.
Right, let’s go and get some
drinks!
The girls walk over to the bar and start pouring drinks. More
shots of the party are shown, and shots of Hannah and Annie
having a good time. (Hannah is obviously angry but is
pretending to be having a good time).
Chloe comes over to the girls once again, with a group of her
own friends. She grabs Annie’s arm.
CHLOE
Annie! Come and dance with us!
Don’t be so boring!
CHLOE’S GROUP OF FRIENDS
Yeah come on Annie! (Chanting)
Annie! Annie! Annie!
Chloe and her group of friends drag Annie away from the bar
and Hannah. Annie laughs and goes to dance with them. Hannah
watches in anger. She is furious and extremely jealous.
Hannah goes into her handbag and pulls out a little bottle of
liquid. She pours a little bit of it into Annie’s drink. She
looks up at Annie having a good time, smirks sarcastically and
stirs Annie’s drink with a straw.
Slow motion shots of the drink being stirred and shots of
Annie dancing a shown.
Annie walks towards Hannah. Hannah quickly stops stirring the
drink and puts the liquid away in her bag. She plays on her
phone and pretends that nothing happened.
ANNIE
(Out of breath, but smiling) Hey,
sorry about that! They just
grabbed me and I couldn’t get
away.
BRIEF 2018
HANNAH
(Sarcastically) It’s okay, don’t
worry about it! I’ve got a bit of
a headache so I’m going to sit
outside for a bit.
ANNIE
Oh no, really?! Do you want me to
come with you?
HANNAH
No no, don’t be silly. You go and
have a good time with your
friends. I’ll come back in when I
feel better
ANNIE
If you’re sure. Call me if you
need anything.
HANNAH
I will.
CHLOE
Annie! Stop running off! Come back
up with us!
Chloe grabs Annie and pulls her onto the dance floor again.
Hannah grabs her bag and coat and leaves the party room.
More party shots are shown. Emphasis on Annie
dancing/laughing/drinking with friends. Annie gradually slows
down and becomes disorientated.
Annie staggers out of the room.
EXT. OUTSIDE PARTY. NIGHT
She opens the door and falls onto the floor outside. She is
coughing, breathing heavily and being sick. She cries on the
floor.
A large shadowed figure stands above her as she continues to
cry.
BRIEF 2018
HANNAH
(Angry tone of voice) I thought
I was your friend?!
ANNIE
You are my friend!
HANNAH
Well you should have stayed with
me then!
ANNIE
(Screams in pain)

Screen goes black and sound cuts off to silence.

tear marks and mascara stains down her cheeks.
HANNAH
MY NAME IS HANNAH SOLIMAN. I
KNOW WHERE THE MISSING GIRL
ANNIE CRESSWELL IS. BUT IF
YOU’RE READING THIS IT’S TOO
LATE. SHE’S LONG GONE.
I MET ANNIE ONLY TWO DAYS AGO,
BUT WE HAVE BEEN FRIENDS FOR
NEARLY A YEAR. SHE IS THE BEST
FRIEND I HAVE EVER HAD. MAYBE
THE ONLY FRIEND I’VE EVER HAD.
SHE IS EVERYTHING I WISH I COULD
BE. HAPPY, CONFIDENT AND
POPULAR. EVERYONE LOVES ANNIE.
BEING FRIENDS WITH ANNIE HAS
BEEN THE LIGHT IN MY DARK LIFE.
AT SCHOOL I AM ALONE, AND I GET
PICKED ON. I’M ALWAYS LEFT OUT,
BUT ANNIE ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL
INCLUDED. WHEN I’M HAVING A BAD
DAY, I WATCH ANNIE’S VIDEOS AND
BRIEF 2018
THE TEARS THAT I CRY TURN INTO A
SMILE.
I HATE TO ADMIT IT, BUT I AM
VERY JEALOUS OF ANNIE. I HATE
THAT SHE HAS OTHER FRIENDS, AND
MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT ONE DAY
SHE WILL LEAVE ME.
I KNOW WHAT I HAVE DONE IS
WRONG, BUT PLEASE TRY AND
UNDERSTAND. ANNIE IS TOO GOOD
FOR THIS WORLD, AND WITH ME, SHE
IS SAFE.
Hannah smiles into the camera. She shuts her eyes slowly and
as they shut, the screen fades to black.

Contingency Plan:
Locations:
For all the locations I will be using in my film, I have found a back-up location
so that if something was to go wrong we would still be able to film.

For all the locations that are privately owned, I have got the owner of the
location to fill out a ‘location release form’ so that I have evidence that I am
able to use that location for filming, and so that the owners have been given
all the information that is required regarding filming.

For the locations that are public (e.g. the train stations), I have not got
location release forms for them. I thought that as these are public locations, I
will not require permission to film there as it is a place that is accessible to
everyone. However, if a member of staff that works at the location, or a
member of public authority tells us to stop filming, or to leave, I will be more
than happy to do so as I will need to adhere to their rules.

Actors:
It is important that I have back up actors for my film. There are so many things that
could go wrong when it comes to actors. For example, the actors may become
unreliable, and refuse to turn up to filming sessions. They may also find difficulty in
travelling to filming locations, or they may not have the time. These are only a few
things that could go wrong, there are countless other scenarios that could occur.
Because of this, it means that I must ensure that the back-up actors that I choose
are extra reliable and trustworthy.

I have chosen to use Sam Colledge, Grace David and myself as the back-up actors.
Sam and Grace are in the first year of the Creative Media Course at college. I have
not known them that long, but they have always been very helpful and supportive in
the short time I have known them. I have no doubt that they will be helpful
throughout the filming process.

I have also put myself down as the back-up actor for the role of Chloe. Although this
is not ideal, it could be interesting to have myself feature in a cameo appearance.
The scenes with Chloe are very short, and could easily be filmed using a tripod, so
me featuring is realistic.

Character Actor Back-Up Actor

Hannah Soliman Lara Jones Sam Colledge (Sam would
play a male version of the
main character, but would
instead be called ‘Harry’.
Having Sam as a backup
gives me the opportunity to
be more diverse when it
comes to gender within my
film).

Annie Cresswell Charlotte Ashley-Carter Grace David (I was very

impressed with Grace in her
audition. I feel as though
she fits the role of Chloe the
best, but I think she would
make a good Annie if she
was needed to).

Chloe Grace David Aimee Squire (because the

role of Chloe is so small, I
could make a cameo
BRIEF 2018

appearance in my film as
the party host ‘Chloe’. The
shots could be filmed with
a tripod so it is possible that
I could be a backup
actress).

Party Extras (Peter, N/A I have decided that I am

Charlotte, Zara, not going to look for back-

Jordan, Charlie, Owen) scene. I am hoping that the
actors I have chosen to
work with will be reliable (I
trust that all of them will be
because none of them
have ever let me down
before) and if something
was to go wrong, the
teachers have said I can
film in my back-up location
(the media studio) at
college and they will send
their classes down to fill the
room up.

Classroom Extras N/A Like the party extras, I have

(Jemimah, Zara, decided that I will not be
Charlie, Louis, Paris and having backup actors for
Will) this scene. As this will be
filmed in college (I am
planning to film this scene
in the classroom next to the
main media room), there
will be plenty of media
students available to help
out. However, I am
confident that the initial
actors that I have chosen
to be in this scene will be
reliable and will turn up to
filming. None of them have
let me down before, and I
trust that they will
cooperate.

Equipment:
The most important element of the contingency plan is the back-up equipment. It is
possible to film without the right location and the right actors, but it impossible to film
without the right equipment. Because of this, I have made sure that I have an
BRIEF 2018

alternative piece of equipment I can use, for every piece of equipment that I am
suing.

The majority of my back-up equipment is going to be loaned from the college. This is
fairly easy. I will just need to fill out a request form, and then pick up the equipment.
However, there is a downside to hiring equipment from the college. As this is a peak
time for equipment hire (with both first and second year CMP students filming their
Final Major Projects) it is highly likely that equipment will be fully booked out.
Because of this, it is important that I ensure that all of my equipment is ready and
working at all times, and if I can find any alternatives to the college equipment, I
should use them.

For the back-up camera, I have asked my friend Will if I can use his camera. He has
a camcorder that films 4K video, and he is more than happy to let me borrow his
camera if something was to go wrong with my own.

For my back-up microphone, another friend (also called Will) has said that he is
happy to lend me his microphone. Both Will’s are very trustworthy, and I am sure that
they will help me with the equipment if necessary.

However, as I previously stated, I am Back-Up Equipment

going to try my very best to ensure that
back-up equipment is not needed.
